With some of these cars claiming crazy high MPH, is there any truth in them? I mean they can barely hit the suggested rated top speed today because of the lack of long straight away.

You'd think that with the price of the car, they'd build you a long enough straightaway too.

Wasn't there a really long airport runway that they used in one of the Fast and Furious movies?

That's still not long enough to reach 288MPH in a car I don't think. And stop safely...

I believe VW has a really long straight on a test track in Europe that James May used to get the Veyron up to around 253 MPH on an episode of Top Gear. Other than that, I agree. Not sure where else you'd have enough runway to get up to 288 and stop.

It's actually this course: Ehra-Lessien - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ehra-Lessien has an oval with a 5 mile-long straight.

Bugatti Chiron prototype spies at LAX Los Angeles Airport

From the article:
The attached photos were taken at Los Angeles LAX airport and unfortunately there’s not much to talk about in terms of how it will look like as the vehicles were covered up pretty good, but at least we can see that one of the vehicles has the rear wing extended.
