hummm... the max i would pay for the FRS would be $22K for the base, maybe $25K if they offer a sport model.

200hp would actually be plenty for me as a dd especially if it runs on regular.

On the link Isamu provided, they have a comparison chart attachment that indicates the FRS will be running on premium fuel. It will get 12.8 kilometers/liter. If you compare that to the 370Z combined fuel economy of 10.5 K/L, then the FR-S should get about 26 MPG on premium fuel.

I'm really liking the specs. 2700 lbs, RWD, good mpg, and one of the lowest center of gravity cars. Pretty much all it comes down to for me to buy it is how much it will cost and magazine/forum reviews. That and if my Z will ever sell.

premium fuel, huh? oh well. but 26mpg is not bad at all. my G's doing about 16-17mpg on surface roads per my gallons vs actual milage... not that it's a show stopper or anything for me but lower operating costs is always welcome.

(im in and out between meetings so skimming through these articles very quickly).

Not at first, a "300hp" version might come later.

Only if the sales figures warrant making a hot version do I see there being any significant variance in power between the two. I think at first the main differences will be cosmetic. If it sells like hot cakes I could see an STi version come out. Maybe use the WRX setup? That would give you roughly 65hp more which would make for a very fun rwd car.

It looks like the Subaru version will be the one to wait on. If that rendering holds any accuracy.

more official renderings... if the production looks even sort of similar... much better than the toyota version

but you can already imagine what it will lose... the lower front diffuser probably those LEDs ...obviously the mirrors.... but alteast it has a a rear spoiler...as i said the toyota version really needs one...

and i couldnt see buying brand wise a scion over a subaru anyway

although is sort of looks like a flattened out RX8 in the front to me

It would be insane for Subaru not to come out with a turbo version the following year or so. they got turbo's just laying around the shop for this engine!

so it this considered a poorman's Z?

isamu-thanks for the specs link. i wonder if both trims get the same brakes or not. that would be the deciding factor for me if getting the base or the higher trim. if both are the same cheezy brakes i'll take the base and work my way up with aftermarket bits. i dont care about the wheels, stereo, etc. those will be replaced anyway. im happy to read MT will get limited slip even on base.

yah, actually 200hp and lighter weight is a great combo for me. it reminds me of an old prelude i had (Gen5 98). and it eating regular unleaded is a plus.

Agreed. Performance-wise, I betting very close to an RX-8 in acceleration and handling. Not bad at all for the price. Now if subaru drops in turbos and adds about $5000....watch out!
