I don't even bother with stock brake comparisons because it is a moot point for those of us that do real hardcore driving. We upgrade our pads/fluid right away as a street pad and DOT 3 fluid just won't hold up to any track or extended spirited driving.

With pad/fluid upgrades these systems are going to perform almost identically.

The only caveat would be the Akebono system, which is in a much greater need of additional air cooling than the Brembo calipers used on the Mustang/Camaro. The latter are bigger and do a better job of expelling heat. The Akebonos have a nasty habit of retaining a lot of it and really benefit from ducting.

I do really like mine with DS2500 pads and ATE Blue, though.

They are great for track duty. Just needs an appropriate pad with DOT 4 fluid. Additional cooling is always a plus.

"Stangs still using Dot 3?!?!?!? Damm, your wife's economy car uses better brake fluid than that!

Front brakes are definitely NOT the current GT Brembos, nor are they the current GT500s. Something new.

Yeah, but what you don't bother with and what Ford is trying to do in terms of getting a better review against the camaro are two different things. SEVERAL Video reviews of both cars on track prove the camaro braking to be much more confident and track ready from stock.

Point of previous statements was simple based on what looks like a larger caliper and a reason why Ford would want to improve on the brakes they already have. Which is based on the camaro v8 SS/1LE performance. It's direct competitor.

Though you're mostly accurate concerning Z brakes to a point. (Z brakes don't give problems in cooler weather with the proper upgrades. Brake hoses necessary for summer driving). It's not relevant to the Camaro/mustang (challenger)redesign war.:tiphat:

Looks like the mustang changed their minds concerning the importance of weight reduction... Ford is making sure they are ready when the 2016 C6 camaro with the new alpha platform arrives. According to edmunds, Mustang decided to go on a 400lb diet. With the v6 near 3600lbs and the v8 close to 3700lbs. This should put them at around 3200 and 3300lbs. Which is an estimated 100-150lbs LIGHTER than the expectations of the alpha/camaro. Read the edmunds article.

Gotta love the muscle car wars!!! :excited:

If it's 400lbs lighter its going to be insane.

Arrvaxx 08-19-2013 08:42 AM

:yum: I love my 40th and am about to drop a crap load of cash on it but if they did all that? Man...that'd be hard to pass up.

Sounds promising for muscle car land.

You know some other rumors I been hearing. Next M2 and RS3 might getting engine configs like we want for the next Z.

I so hope the next Z pulls out a 6TT +/- 3.0 on a lighter platform.

The 400lbs is going to only be the v6 or ecoboost model they are saying now.
Though the v8 will try to cut 200lbs, it might not fully happen they think.

Also rumor or confirmed facts are:
-GT500 is gone and replaced with a NA GT350 to compete against the NA Camaro
-SVT (unknown official name) will be the new top dog. Probably using the 5.0 but unsure yet on SC or TT yet. Another rumor for this model is they hope to take on the Corvette and bypass the top Camaro. They want to basically destroy the Camaro at the top and put a challenge against the Corvette C7.

Also a minimum of a 10% price increase for the Mustang may happen for the top end models.

m4a1mustang 08-19-2013 08:59 AM

I want them to bring back the SVT Snake Horse.

I don't think Chevy is going to let that happen this time around. I think they intend the camaro to beat or rival the mustang, without giving them the leeway to compete against the corvette directly... If you look at the engine platforms they have now, and the new alpha platform which we really know nothing about. People are estimating 3400-3500lb chassis based on tensile steel composition on the ATS. We don't know if chevy will use other tricks for weight reduction on the camaro. We have to see which way chevy goes in the war. It's going to be tight. :driving:

theDreamer 08-19-2013 09:11 AM

I would agree, but Ford has been keeping a lot under wraps with the next Mustang and some rumors are coming out they want to bump themselves up a level in the competition.

UNKNOWN_370 08-19-2013 09:41 AM

We don't know ANYTHING about the C6 and they have the advantage of coming out one year later. But hey, it's a healthy competition that stirs much excitement.
