Great (rumoured) news for Mustang Fanboys

Ford Insider: 2015 Mustang EcoBoost to pack 300hp, GT gets 475hp

It seems the next gen v6 mustang will get replaced with a 300hp ecoboost engine. So even if it lost 5 hp? I'm sure torque and responsiveness from the turbo 4 should eclipse the current V6. Hope they add a worthy driveshaft this time?

The 5.0 is being rumoured to punch out 475hp... That's a lot of stock boom if prices stay similar? Also, if they get a weight reduction to about 3300-3400? Whew??? Awesome. IRS, should sweeten the deal and make the next gen mustang the biggest muscle car to fear.

The camaro stands at 426 now. The C7 vette is at 450hp est. I expect either Chevy will further bump that power or get even more aggressive on weight reduction. Can't wait for the next gen Muscle Car Wars.

IRS, a great V8, sounds awesome, handles well, what's not to like? Oh, right. the interior minus the Recaros.

It's a great time to be a car enthusiast.

The biggest factor I am waiting to hear is the weight drop.
I have heard 300 pounds to no weight loss in the past few months. Also, the Vette lost weight from its frame but had to bring some back for safety features which may end up being what Ford has to do with the new Mustang.

It's going to be a hell of a car. From a performance standpoint, all it was missing was a proper rear suspension.

Forget Mustang or Z fanboys, as a car guy I think this will be awesome. I'm sure the GT will be starting at least $35k though..

I too am looking forward to the next gen Muscle Car Wars :tiphat:

And fatter tires.

I don't remember what torque feels like

Give it a rest, man. You've said your piece. We get it.

One day Ford will finally figure that one out...one day.

I'm not counting on too much of a weight drop with the new Mustang, even if they downsize it bit. Dropping weight costs money and I think they will already have a tough enough time hitting the right price point.

If they finally shed some of the "feature" bodywork and shrink it down, I could see it losing a couple hundred pounds, which would be amazing IMO. If they finally equip it with enough tire, I'm not sure there will be much that competes out of the box.

I thought they were finally stepping in the right direction when the track pack got some tires that were only 20mm thinner than the 370z, but then they handicapped the GT500 again....so who knows:ugh2:

I guess the good news is, tires are easily replaced. At least, that's what I hear. I've never owned a car long enough to replace the tires:roflpuke2:

Yeah, the trick is going to be going IRS and reducing weight, while keeping cost down...

Sounds promising for muscle car land.

You know some other rumors I been hearing. Next M2 and RS3 might getting engine configs like we want for the next Z.

I so hope the next Z pulls out a 6TT +/- 3.0 on a lighter platform.

Seems more news is appearing about Ford's engine choice for the next-gen stang.

My opinion on this render... The front grille and hood look awesome, the rest looks generic. I hope they come up with something better for the stang body.

JARblue 05-27-2013 11:00 AM

It looks like a Sonata :ugh2:

agree with the grille and hood tho; the front end, excluding the fenders, looks quite nice

kenchan 05-27-2013 11:15 AM

it looks too high tech and modern looking to be a mustang.
