Subaru BRZ is it that Great?

I just read the auto section of The NY times. All three reviews rate the BRZ the top 10 cars of the year.

Inexpensive 2+2, rwd, subaru/toyota reliability (maybe), lightweight, very tunable, huge aftermarket, aggressive styling.

Hardtop miata with a bit more practicality.

Its overpriced for what it is. You can buy an S2000 or a used G35/350z and be happier for half of the cost.

I think where Subaru/Toyota got it right with this car is that it's a lightweight, small-displacement 4 cylinder, inexpensive, fun sports car. It's right for our times of high gas prices, frugal spending, & original styling.

I sat in one ( Toyota 86 model) @ the Bangkok Auto Show earlier this year and was really impressed w/ the driving position, steering wheel, bucket seats, shifter position, etc. Really impressed . Made me want to own one w/o even starting the car to hear it or test-driving it. Just my observations , '

Hek I totally dig the looks...can't give a thumbs down because I've never driven one. But looks completely mod friendly...it'd be a contender for me if I were a bit younger.

I saw a white BRZ twice today (the same one), cruising around where i live (southeast Denver). It was sexy, while being very subtle. Very much different compared to seeing a white 370z Nismo (!) : the Nismo is Muscular, race-car like, and Sexy in a very BOLD way. . .

Why are you comparing a brand new car to a car that is at least 5 years old?

We have discussed this car and its sibling ad nauseum. They're fun, affordable rwd sports coupes. I don't know what else matters. I tested an FRS, it didn't "wow me". But there was a lot to like.

I moved the comparison posts to where they belong.

I suggest those member who basically ignored my request to take the talk there.

I will not be asking next time

370z vs brz

Because he asked it the BRZ was great, yeah it has the potential to be a great new car and if you want it to be fast it will need alot of boost. But if you are going to mod it why waste that extra money just to have lower miles and a new trendy car? Get the better platform such as an S2000 or Z/G for half of the cost end of story.

The BRZ is a good car. I think it's overpriced but it's a good choice if you want a light, fun, efficient RWD car.

S2000 is a better platform for sure, but not everyone wants to live with a roadster, and not everyone would be willing to put up with the noise. If you guys think road noise is loud on a 370Z... the S2000 is 10x louder!

Yes, we know the BRZ doesn't have much power. But that's not what the car is all about.

Also, LS fits.

On an Internet forum, no car is better than the one in the one you own. It's a proven fact. Statistics don't lie.

If its cheaper, it doesn't perform as well

If its more expensive, why would you pay that much? I can turbo mine for $1000

If its the same price, we must comment on something obscure to validate our purchase

By this logic, I will say that the brz is not as fast as the z.
