I saw a nice looking car.

I also read a bunch of rubbish about something weighing over 3700# with skinnier tires than a 370Z Nismo that comes in RWD only and has 600# of torque with a table-top power-curve.

It may well compete with the ZL1, but it doesn't have anything for the Z06 even in its wildest dreams. The Z06 is a driver's car, not a drag-strip bottle-rocket. The GT500 will never be what the Z06/ZR1 are. Not until they do some suspension work that involves a real tire, trim some fat, etc.

Also, the physics of IRS vs. SRA cannot be denied. You won't see it show up on a skidpad or a track, but take it to the street and introduce pot-holes and the like, and the SRA cannot help but have a smaller contact-patch when one tire dips into a pot-hole. It's just simple physics at that point.

I understand and agree with you. They are both great cars IN THEIR CLASS, but the article you linked did directly compare them.

The Mustang in all its variations and trim levels has improved a lot. Easily the most improved car of the decade. But it still has some way to go before being considered a true sports car.

Sports cars are about more than numbers or lap times or 0-60 times. That's what magazine racing is for. Sports cars are about weight reduction, nimble handling, good driver feel, good balance, etc. A Bugatti Veyron or C63 AMG can lap faster than a Cayman R or S2000. Which ones are the better sports cars?

I recently test drove a 2011 Mustang. Felt pretty good, and decent balanced, but didn't really feel as crisp or as nimble as my Z felt. Dampers were a bit too soft. The car also felt very huge from the inside. A long never-ending hood with a big bump in the middle made it difficult to tell precisely where the front wheels were. And the worst thing as the steering. It was so numb and devoid of feel that it felt more like a Lexus than a sports car.

The new mustang gt may post very good lap times, and have pretty decent handling, but it's still a bit more muscle car than sports car.

You should have put it in Sport Mode.

Brembo. But didn't have any sport mode. Based on my limited Google search, it seems steering mode is only a feature on the 2012 models.

Brake, tap tc twice. I've riden in Steve's '11 on sport mode.

Another thing, coming from the Z, it definitely takes a little time to get acclimated to the size and feel of the Mustang. Once you get comfortable with where everything is it really starts to feel good. Quite nimble.

It's especially impressive once you get a feel for just how far you can push it.

I'm actually swapping my stock suspension for new springs, Koni Sport (yellow) shocks and struts, and a watts link rear suspension along with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires so I can't wait to feel out the new setup. It's going to be a better setup than the Boss, which is pretty impressive by itself.

No kidding. The car felt bigger than even some 4 dr sedans i drove. Why did Ford make it so damn huge? The 4th generation car was garbage, but at least its size was somewhat reasonable.

It is somewhat large, but it does carry its weight pretty well especially if you get some good dampers on it. If you're used to the Z it really feels big. Now that I've been driving it for a while though it feels much smaller than it really is mainly due to how it drives.

The next generation is supposed to have smaller dimensions and will be no more than 3,350 lbs. I'm interested in seeing how that one turns out.

Because it is a Mustang.

Asking why they made it so big is like asking why they made the FR-S so small.
