Here is the thing, 'Meh it is just a Mustang' is because the Shelby GT500 really is just a Mustang with a blower and suspension tweaks. I agree they do a great job taking the platform and improving upon it, but my statement is at the end of the day the GT500 is nothing more than a Mustang.

Now if ford made your 2 seat, AWD, 800HP car you listed, then that would be something completely different on a new platform.

But the reason Ford produced crappy Mustangs for years on end is because the name would sell, so they could throw out complete and utter crap, and people would still scoop it up because "meh it's a mustang".

It's a double edged sword.

Also, there will always be a faster car. If you go buy a Mustang now, there will be a faster car for decent money past that. Keeping up with the performance Joneses is a zero sum game.

I know but at least come up with something. I rather hear things like it has a solid rear axle, or why the interior is cheap (still waiting on that one), or it weighs too much. Those are reasons that can be discussed. Its just a mustang just shows a prejudice against it and you can't even debate the car with the person.

I drive a Z and I love it, it has problems (a lot have been brought up on this site). But I like the mustang too. When it comes to my money I want to keep as open a mind that I can so I can maximize my investment and fulfill the need/want I my life.

But it is the first 200 mph Mustang, which is incredible.

Which is nice, but where will I use it?
If you say track, then I will say buy a Boss 302 then if you want a track Mustang. It is a nice feature and good to see progress with the car, but honestly I would be taking a 5.0 or Boss 302 before I even look at a GT500.

The same place you will use 155 mph, but the GT500 will still be faster

Yep, just human nature to think that way. Part of the reason Nissan doesn't bring over the regular skyline

That is a good point.

At the same time, on the broader spectrum, you can see why they'd put out this GT500. It's to compete with the ZL1 Camaro. And if you feel the same about the ZL1, that "big deal it's just a Camaro", then ok no prob.

Biases and opinions about a car are personal.

I dislike certain cars just because of their manufacturer, or their exterior design, or their association with some m4a1users. But that's just subjective opinion.

Lemers is right, there's no logical argument to be had there, but so much of the buying process is illogical.

A mustang that can go 200 mph. Thats why they call it a trim level Noboby ever said it wasnt a mustang

The GT500 is not to the mustang GT as the NISMO is to the 370z. You can't take a GT and "built" it to a GT500 without going way over the cost of buying a new GT500.
