Just saw a bright orange one in town and agree the wheels/ setup is very weak. We all thought it was a Hyundai surprisingly.

Guy at the local Cars and Coffee let me take his around the block this morning. Gotta say looks wise it is just ok. Behind the wheel though the car just felt so "flickable". Since it wasn't my car I wasn't gonna go burning the tires off the car through a corner but it definitely had very good handling from what I could tell.

Simple fact is that it's NOT meant to compete against the Z. Instead it's aimed at the miata, RX-8, and S2K crowd.

I was at a bbq and the house next door had an fr-s. it looks like a failed attempt at being a genesis. Honestly, it is a typical scion, nice but nothing special. Perhaps if the car had a turbo it would have more appeal. As an autocross car I think it does have potential though.

Just my thoughts on the car.

There was one at the autox today, nothing special other than the fact that it is very low. Interior was like a $20K car at best.

It's ok. It needs aftermarket love. For the money, I'd get an MX-5

Exactly what I said a while back on the other long running thread. I just can't get into it.

I agree! Honestly, I thought the car would be much better even in stock trim. I hate to say it but as I walked away the feeling I had was that it was "cheap".

The car will evolve and I am sure the aftermarket support will improve it substantially.

I agree. Everyone already knows this car is going to sell a ton. It brings the sports coupe back to Toyota finally, a crowd that Toyota didnt previously cater to. Give it a couple of years and the aftermarket will take care of the cars lacking HP.

The FR-S will sell, sure. But it's not great car for the money. Unless the one I tested was the anomaly, it felt much cheaper than a 25k car.

Low? No way, unless he had coilovers. We've got an FR-S and it's far from low.

The interior is lacking, but for the price and the goal of the car you really can't complain. Unfortunately, dealers are piling on terrible "aftermarket parts" and "styling packages" and other BS so they can overcharge for them.

Here's why I LOVE the FR-S/BRZ:

1) It's RWD and it's relatively cheap. It's basically a hardtop Miata.
2) The primary goal from the engineers/designers was cheap, fun, and RWD. They compromised very little.
3) It handles great.
4) My favorite thing about this car is that it should light a fire under Nissan and Honda, maybe even Chevy and Ford, to bring similar cars to market. If this car sells well, the other guys are gonna want a piece of that pie. I can even see Mazda improving the Miata platform as a result. These are all great things. If Nissan brought back the 240SX, I'd be ecstatic.

Now, for things I don't like about this car...

OEM wheels and ride height make me sad. Our FR-S looks like a monster truck
ECU has some sort of trickery going on inside. Looks like some terrible cam timing or something... There's a huge power dip around 3500rpms. On top of that, the car isn't responding to bolt-ons very well. We partnered with Agency Power to develop an intake, exhaust, and some other bolt-ons. We made pretty good power with the exhaust or the intake, but together the result wasn't cumulative. It was like the ECU said "3+3=4". Also, the OEM clutch felt pretty lame. We partnered with Clutch Masters and they developed a new clutch for us, which is much better.
