Doesn't apply to checks...just cash. Z just got a fat check

yeah it definately feels punchier down low too, H is definately the way to go

Why do so many people run x pipes?

Top end power and sound.

Look at NASCAR for a moment:

On short tracks and road courses where they want as much torque as possible to power out of corners they usually run an H pipe configuration. On faster tracks where top-end power is the concern, they run an X.

I prefer an X for sound; it's cleaner and more exotic if you couple it with the right mufflers (like mine). An H has more of a beefy tone. Either will sound good, IMO.

You might remember my FRPP Sports from when I still had my stock H pipe.

i bought mine cause it was cheap, and at the time there was no off road h option...allot of people say they flow a little better for top end too, but lethal has dynos and they swear there is no difference from x to h...ive read both sides of the argument

That's why I always look at what the pro teams do. If you run an H pipe at Martinsville and a X pipe at Atlanta that pretty much tells you which one is better at what.

this is troof!

my final decision came down to the sound i was looking for:tiphat:

m4a1mustang 09-21-2011 11:00 AM

Yep, on the street it always comes down to sound. I have always preferred an X pipe to an H.

I ran an x on my (old) 5.0 and liked it, but these motors sound different.

Btw, why do the mod motors have such a distinct sound? I've never found a satisfactory answer

Something about the heads/cams, firing order, and exhaust system. Just shut up and listen.

I wanna know wai!

Just crazy, cuz I know they changed almost everything on the 5.0...the sound changed, but I can still identify it a mile away as a mod.

Yeah, it was really a huge inconvenience to post up a picture--why would you bother posting something obviously false when everyone has access to it and the ability to call you out on it?

FromG2Z 09-21-2011 12:50 PM

alright, Steve, Dan, please help me out here.

Should I order new or get used? This is essentially the ultimate question. Here's some facts:

Used:
2011 Red candy, fully optioned out (navi, hid's, etc), 3.73, comfort, electronics, including optional 19's. But no Brembo. less than 2500 miles.

New:
obviously I'd get it the way I want it, which is probably Kona Blue but just with brembo and 3.73

Bottomline, going new would be about ~$2k more.

Used or new?

Would the 2011's be more prone to tranny issues?

Red__Zed 09-21-2011 12:53 PM

Sounds like new is a no brained to me.

I don't think the car is worth it sans brembo

Lemers 09-21-2011 12:58 PM

Only buy a "new" used car if it is exactly what you want. A $2k discount isn't that much when you are talking $30k +

m4a1mustang 09-21-2011 12:58 PM

I would order new. There are so many options available it's the best way, it's hard to find one on a lot with the exact specs you want.

Kona is an awesome color.

Regarding the transmission, I think in general 2012 is less likely to have issues as it's the second year of the build... that's true with every car. I don't think the transmission was ever a real problem, though, but that's up for debate.

Just order new with the spec you want.

I would not buy the non-Brembo car unless I immediately planned on a BBK and suspension mods.

FromG2Z 09-21-2011 01:03 PM

Sounds like the brembo option is the key eh? You guys must have the brembo's and love it? Have you tested without the brembos? Does it really ride softer and stop slower? What's keeping me thinking about the Red Candy used, is because it's fully loaded...... the color is neat too. But I prefer Kona tho... but could be swayed I guess... lol

its not just the calipers, the brembo pack comes with stiffer suspension, a "sport" traction control mode, and those 19x9 wheels. it's sort of like the sports package for the Z.

Red__Zed 09-21-2011 01:08 PM

Was not impressed with the non-brembo option at all. Test drive an 11 right after I bought my z and it made me feel better about the z....
Then drove the brembo model...and...we know how that went.

Whether you want it loaded is up to you...but I'd be suspicious of such a new car traded back in

Stopping distance is close. The base brakes on the Mustang are decent and stop within 10 feet of the Brembos on average, much of this due to the difference in tire compound. The real difference is the Brembos can sustain repeated abuse (i.e. track environment) where the base can't.

Aside from the Brembo brakes, the Brembo packaged cars have different shocks, springs, tires, and stability control tuning. Our sport mode is a little more liberal than the base... we can do more before it intervenes.

We also sit on Pirelli PZero summer rubber vs. the base PZero Nero all seasons, which amounts to quite a big difference in grip.

And kona blue is amazing. My first choice of 2012 colors

Same. For me it was Kona, Sterling Gray, or Race Red.

True statement, i've almost died a few times trying to out-accelerate oncoming traffic to make a right hand turn, far too much power for the all seasons to handle.

Red370 09-21-2011 01:15 PM

Sterling gray was actually my first choice as well, I had to get away from the Red 370, I got 5 speeding tickets in the year I had it, so I decided to go for a more neutral color that hid dirt well and kept me out of the eye of the 5-0.

Red370 09-21-2011 01:17 PM

keep in mind, before you get too excited about 3.73 gears, a coworker and myself made the same trip to Frankfurt last week and he averaged 21.2 mpg, while I managed 24 with 3.55's, also, if you plan on supercharging, you might want to stay with a 3.55 or 3.31, you'll need the tall gears. Lethals cars are both running 2.73's, kept adding that they run out of gear too quick and have to shift into 4th before the finish.

Crazy. Ford lists it as part of the brembo package, and at least one base model I drove didn't have it:confused: wonder what the deal is
