They really aren't needed on the street. I think if you really spent a lot of time tracking and liked to run more rearward bias than the typical street car it would be beneficial...

But then again, when it comes to brakes, look at NASCAR. You have 3400lb cars that run 15" wheels... you can't fit much brake inside those cars but yet they manage to go from 130 mph to 65 mph 1,000 times during a race at Martinsville on one set of rotors and pads. So there's definitely no real risk of failure assuming you've got all of your cooling in order with small brakes. It just helps to go bigger if you can.

There's no doubt a rear BBK looks badass, though.

nah, I just mean weight-distro wise. our cars carry all their weight on the nose, and there is a ton of weight transfer. If you put an IR gun on the Z's brakes after the dragon, the rears barely heat up at all while the fronts are cooking...just the nature of the beast.

I made a comment in another thread about how the BBKs on the 5.0 and the 370 look super small because of the 19" wheels.

My GF's CLK500 runs a 13.6" front disc (vs 14" for us) with 4 pot fronts, but it's all under a 17" rim. Looks so much bigger than the Mustang and Z.

Crap cell pic but you get the idea:

We'd need 15" or better rotors on our cars to get that look.

guys always bitched about having to get bigger rims to run decent size brakes kits....I think you had to go +2" to run a 13" rotor.

On a car that light I doubt there was much need to run a huge rotor.

iirc, stock fronts were like 11.8. I ran carbotech pads and never had any issues, even with all the power I was pushing.

That's true. Can't we just drop 5-6k on a FRPP supercharger, get it dealer-installed, then get full warranty??? So why bother with a Shelby... lol

Your Volks looked hot. Which were those??? CE37?

Steve, nice review! In your opinion though, are the stock pads/rotors good enough? I would imagine, what makes the Brembo kit on our cars truly "Brembos" are the pads and calipers themselves? In other words, if I were to get replacement oem pads or calipers, would they be Brembo parts?

I do like the look of slotted tho. So you replaced both pads/rotors at 21k eh?

Steve! Steve did the review!!!

The stock pads and rotors are awesome. The stock pads are a Ferodo street + light track compound (which is why I replaced them after 21k of street driving!). They are great.

The front calipers are Brembo. The rear are Ford. The pads are Ferodo/Brembo. Front rotors are Brembo. Rear rotors are Ford. It's a good setup.
