No

Red__Zed 04-24-2011 03:22 PM

If they get the power and weight right, it will probably be worth it.

cossie1600 04-24-2011 03:22 PM

RWD Scion TC?

kenchan 04-24-2011 03:40 PM

Yes, if you want to go backwards and compete with a miata and the rest of the pre-2000 era family cars.

mick 04-24-2011 03:43 PM

the subaru version of this car probably would give the 370z some competition.

Or if you want a car with an engine with potential.

Chriz 04-24-2011 03:50 PM

I think the car looks great and all, but a 2.0 N/A flat four? This thing better weigh 2300 lbs or less. I also heard that the subaru version will be using the same engine

Da.Menace 04-24-2011 03:57 PM

Wait until the production models comes out..
Concept stuff never really make its way to the market.
But 20" with 18" brake discs? Did I hear that right?

jaedub 04-24-2011 03:59 PM

200hp < 330hp. No thanks, looks awesome though

cfweber 04-24-2011 04:07 PM

performance

no hurry

it would need to run sub 5 sec zero to 60 and pull 1 g

I mean it doesn't look bad, but

let's not get ahead of ourselves

Trips 04-24-2011 04:12 PM

Looks pretty cool, not cool enough for me to leave my Z

frost 04-24-2011 04:14 PM

Looks nice, but 200 hp? Minivans come with more than that.

Zedx 04-24-2011 04:16 PM

Alot of this will not make it to production besides the engine. so i wouldn't"t get your hopes hope. the 370Z will totally crush this car in every single category! And Toyota will not price it cheap your lookin at 27k or higher for this car. I doubt it will make any sense to buy it. unless you get the cheap 21k version with no options. your looking at the new civic fan boy car. so really really think it over. doesnt seem worth it to me at all.

that's the one i'll be looking at!

DIGItonium 04-24-2011 04:23 PM

IMO, I never liked the new tC. This new car is definitely appealing, efficient, and hopefully fun to drive. Sometimes I wish the Z went back to the basics in terms of packaging. Regardless, I wouldn't trade my Z for as long as I can afford gasoline.

370Z_Fan 04-24-2011 04:38 PM

The FT-86 looks ricey so no, I wouldn't trade in my Z.

murphman 04-24-2011 05:09 PM

looks like the fender behind the front wheels narrows inward with a lot of the back side of the front wheel sticking out. Have fun soaking the side of you car with mud and dinging it with rocks

Dreezy562 04-24-2011 05:23 PM

Im interested more in the subie/toyota versions.

Scion can eat a ****

Strangler 04-24-2011 05:26 PM

Only thing I really don't like about that scion is it's side mirrors. Way too small.

red6spd 04-24-2011 05:26 PM

Its the 2012 2013?????? Nissan Z threads all over again. This is like the 3rd thread about this car in the past week. This car is going to be in the 20k price range, which means it will not be competing with cars like the Z.

Armonster 04-24-2011 05:34 PM

Looks awesome, but it doesn't pass the "must have 300 hp to play" test.

Cafiax 04-24-2011 05:35 PM

wtf is like the LFA and the 370z's baby LOL

eddieconfetti 04-24-2011 05:41 PM

Always say never to toyota. Unless it is an lfa.

BeachZTT 04-24-2011 05:41 PM

I like the styling. It's a good looking car. Not for me though. Dropping almost 200 hp from my TT to the 370, no way I would sacrafice another 100!

This.

Might also be worth waiting to see what the Subie version will be like.

If possible, I'd like to keep the Z and get that as a second car.

It will weigh around 2500 lbs and have excellent balance -- it will only need ~250 hp to play on the same field as the Z.

Of course, if it only makes 180 hp at the crank, they better offer a turbo version :(

But we know they won't, so I'd agree getting rid of your Z for this would be a step back. I'd even be willing to bet the production version will look considerably watered down from that concept.

It will. Remember wat the xB use to look like and wat the real bonk looks like in stock form? LOL. :D

spearfish25 04-24-2011 06:29 PM

Watch the FT-86 turn into a girlie car like the Celica. 200hp wasn't even enough in a car like the Lotus Elise. Hence the Exige and Exige S.

AlphaSnacks 04-24-2011 07:25 PM

If they can match the interior of the 370Z in fit, finish, and aesthetics, on top of provide a punchy, mod friendly, and adequately powerful motor on a light car...then the FT revival car will prove worthy.

But seeing as how Toyota execs are billing this as more of a Miata MX5 fighter, I wouldn't bet on any of the above happening. Here's what I predict:

2.0L H4
200HP @ 7500RPM
150TQ @ 2000RPM
2750-2800lbs (Options pending)
2+2 Seating

For some reason, whenever I think of concept cars that went from awesome concept to ultimate FAIL in the production model, I always think of the latest Mitsubishi Eclipse.

well about 3yrs ago infiniti failed on the current G37C's as well. i was sold on the concept to replace my G35C, i saw the production renderings... :ugh2: then the actual car. :shakes head:

Lemers 04-24-2011 08:21 PM

I think this car looks good as a concept but still seems like a down grade from the Z

esfourteen 04-24-2011 08:27 PM

I'll trade in my Z when nissan puts out a TT Z from the factory.

Waiz 04-24-2011 08:36 PM

Not unless you like torque!

Plus this keeps getting delayed it won't be out until 2013 with all the issues Toyota has been having.

CrownR426 04-24-2011 10:39 PM

This will not perform on the same level as the z.
Stock vs Stock no...
But when modding goes anything wins.

If the new Alfa 4C comes to the US in an affordable package, I'd buy that and never even consider the FT-86.

***Addendum

Although...I just read the next page in my CAR Magazine and the Subaru STI version of the FT-86 might get my attention.

spearfish25 04-25-2011 07:50 AM

Even more food for thought...the latest Esflow update. Apparently the seats are molded into the rear bulkhead and the steering wheel and pedals adjust. About damn time, Nissan.

370z 3,300/330=10lb/hp
FT86 x,x00/200=10lb/hp

Unless it has something else going for it its going to have to be around the weight of a Lotus Elise/Exige. But I doubt that, it will be around the same weight of other small 2 seat cars, 2,700-3,100 lbs. (Miata/S2000 plus the weight of a roof ~300lbs)

Edit: If they stress a little more on safety and use more cheaper materials to keeps costs down, it may end up heavier then a Z.

spearfish25 04-25-2011 10:51 AM

The Subie STI version is speculated to have over 270hp in the article I posted.
