Or even the whole car :roflpuke2:

No. I thought people did upgrades these days but this is a downgrade sir.

TeRRoRiFiC35 07-05-2012 09:12 AM

The FT-86 is going to get a lot of love from aftermarket tuners just from what I've seen so far. The HP output is not overly impressive in comparison to the 370z. Also, the look of it from when the original version that was brought to everyone's attention 4 years ago to now are completely different; it has been dumbed down and made not as nice. Also since it is under the Scion line now, people will just look at this car as trash. IMO, I would rather just buy a used 350z or 240sx and go from there instead of the FT-86.

Getting into cars isn't the hard part

It's really hard to judge IMO without looking at pics themselves. I use to think this way until I made the comparison myself.

The original headlights are super sleek and sharper, but the position of the projectors may be a bit too far back to be effective. A lot of the front facia still looks the same with minor tweak on aggressiveness, but I'm not sure if the side lower ducts are supposed to be functional air ducts for the brakes. I like the original rear at first, but it looks like that style isn't going to age well after released. The new ones are a bit funky yet modern and I'm pretty sure there will be a aftermarket for pure red ones.

There was a version prior to that which had more LED's used

Well, the lots are usually gated off or surrounded by very high curbs the cars can't drive over. And the cars are bunched together surrounded by other cars, so there's virtually no mobility.

I don't know why I think like a thief. I must've been one in the medieval era.

KaienZ34 07-20-2012 09:44 AM

Look out we have eclipse power right here.

:bowrofl: can't even hold a candle to my old Honda Accord 6MT :shakes head:

Is it just me or does that intake filter seem a little high - as in, will the hood even close with that thing installed?

jpritche 07-20-2012 09:52 AM

What until vtech kicks in.... oh wait wrong car. Though this was an Si :rofl2:

If it does close, it won't be getting any cold air up there on top the motor.

No crap. I had to go back and look at the previous pictures posted for a hood scoop. They'll probably need something like this:

Christ...if the compression of the motor becomes an issue for boost that it's limited to just a few pounds, I don't see these things putting down more than 250WHP on stock blocks without blowing up.

The inevitable STi or TRD version of this car will be supremely better than just slapping on a turbo to the base model

CrownR426 07-20-2012 12:19 PM

Um, I think the engine used for both is boost friendly!
I believe the tranny will be an issue...
Great handling car, which is missing some power.
This car is a problem.
Lightweight, rwd, handling, looks.

lol not really.

When they can safely deliver over 300hp and still maintain the handling characteristics for under 30k, I might be more impressed.

Compression is way too high to be truly boost friendly.
There's a reason they are running 4psi.
I will eagerly await results/engine carnage pics as appropriate.

Good start -- but needs more.

My old roots blown Celica GT-S put down 250/170 on a dynojet, would have kept up with a lightly modded Z, and would blow the doors off of that turboed FR-S, even with the wrong wheels doing the grunt work.

Nice torque curve, tho. Got rid of the "death valley" pretty handedly.

DR_ 07-20-2012 03:07 PM

I saw the first one on the street yesterday. Within 5 minutes I saw a second. The first one was the white which looked very plain. The second was blue w/tint and it looked much better.

For years I have been saying the holy grail would be RWD 300hp/3000lbs/$30k. When I heard the 370z was going lighter I thought it would be the first. Then I heard about the FT-86 and thought it would be the first. Hopefully one of these days somebody hits this mark from the factory.

Agreed.

vo2max99 10-15-2012 02:12 AM

Test track #'s don't really matter to me. I'm a lot more concerned with the fun to drive factor.

There's cars with 200hp and under that are a lot more fun & rewarding to drive than many 500+hp cars.

Besides, test track #'s only matter if you race your daily drivers for a living.

So... what you're saying is that you'd rather drive a Miata than a GT-R.

To each their own.

Thirded, I'm eagerly waiting for the extremely overpriced sti version. May hit 2/3 criteria.

BlackZeda 10-15-2012 10:50 PM

I have seen a FR-S and a BRZ and have to say the red Scion looked much better, but the Z still beats either by far. The only thing that will make me trade the Z in would be the rumored 400hp hybrid Supra if it looks anything like the artist renderings I have seen.
