OK I'll make you feel better. Nearly 6 seconds faster than 370Z Nismo around Laguna Seca. Barf!
YouTube - M3 Killer! Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laps Laguna Seca |
I know I don't post here a lot but I do read most of the threads. Owning a GT, I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents...
I recently sold my SRT8 Challenger for a 2012 Mustang GT 5.0 instead of a 370z, which is what I initially was going to purchase. The Mustang is fast, loud and truly a LOT of fun. The engine is really the star of the show with the GT. It will "out do" the Z car really anyway you look at it. That being said: In 1500 miles the car has spent more days at the dealer than my garage. There's an undiagnosed creaking/groaning from my suspension that I've tried 4 times at 2 different dealerships to fix and have been brushed aside, lied to and had my car rack up mysterious miles (approx 40) after being left overnight at the dealer. Also, my transmission (auto not manual) has a grinding when putting the car into Reverse and Neutral. I think the Mustang is one hell of a car and Ford really has a monster on their hands, but so far I've been pretty dissatisfied with the Ford brand/personnel I've dealt with. And I really hope I'll be able to sell the car to a buddy soon. Both are great cars and it's a great time...maybe the last great time, to be a car enthusiast. Buy what you love, drive what you love and show everyone else respect - give them the room to do the same. /rant |

Curious what kind of gas mileage do Mustangs get on track? With fuel prices going up poor fuel economy can add up. I know they are decent if you stay off the throttle but once your on throttle they must suck copius amounts of dead dino juice?
Also being sooo much heavier they must eat brake pads and tires like crazy. I was surprised at how good my tire wear has been on track with the 370Z. I had a set of A6 Hoosiers with 6 autocrosses and did full day of 20 minute sessions on same tires and they still have a ton of tread. I suspect a Mustang wouldnt be so kind to soft tire like that? |

212 pounds is not soooooo much lol about gas mileage its pretty good for a V8 |
So far with 1500 miles I see about 17.6 mpg. Mostly city driving in congested areas of Baton Rouge. Not terrible for a v8 I guess.

Of course all are going to pale in comparison to the mighty Miata. If only every car was that cheap to operate. :icon17: |

And while I know on street ithe moose-tang is ok on MPg I suspect it is very thirsty on the track. And dudes my Chevy Crew cab work truck with v8 4.8 liter gets 17 mpg with mixed city and highway, it gets nearly 20 when doing hwy Lol! Leave it to Chevy to beat Mustang gas mileage with a huge truck. My Nismo is over 20 mpg combined and over 26 Hwy MPG..... but as I had said on track I suspect your V8 mustangs are terrible. They aren't the most efficient race cars. |

Now we're talking about gas mileage and "MPG on the track"?
If the gas cost is the concern, you sure as hell can't afford the tires and brake pads and the paint damage from ending up in the gravel trap. :) I suppose if you're talking about performance in road race/track events that require a pit stop it's relevant but now we're about a thousand miles from the concerns of 99% of the buyers of both cars. To that point... Of the small percentage of people who will do more than drive it to work or go out cruising, the majority will be doing: - Drag race - Autocross - HPDE I'm sure a pro in a well-set-up Camry SE could probably mop the floor with most drivers of either a 370Z or a Mustang GT in any road racing contests, so really what we are concerned with here is factory setups being used for things most of the buyers will never do anyway, and which, if the car were actually used for that, would never use the factory setup anyway, i.e. "******** magazine racing." I'm sure there are a few drivers who actually race both cars. I'm sure they can both do very well. But, for most buyers, getting all caught up in this "which car turned a faster lap at Laguna Seca" is kind of retarded, because as much as we all like to think of ourselves as little Mario Andretti's, most of us would be getting passed by a good driver in half the car, or going into a wall at the first turn. :rofl2: |
