Official '11 Mustang GT vs 370z Thread
It seems like this comparison is getting more and more attention and it's about time that it got it's own thread for anyone who is deciding over a 370z or a 5.0 Mustang OR if they're still on the fence about trading their 370z for a 5.0.
I was in this position about 1-2 months ago, comparing the two cars. I've had the Z for almost a year now and it's been fantastic to me so far. I just passed the 8,000 mileage marker now and have had literally 0 problems with it and it's been an absolute blast to drive. However, when the '11 Mustang GT finally released (summer or so) I took a long time contemplating a trade in. Now, I've driven both cars and have collected my thoughts about them. Performance-wise: The Mustang 5.0 will trump the Z in almost everything. Yes, it weighs a bit heavier (~300 lbs) yet makes ~100 more rwhp and 120 ft lbs torque. The 5.0 itself is proof that Ford is finally pushing for modern technology in their performance vehicles. Anyways, the power advantage of the 5.0 will allow it a faster lap time are tracks high torque tracks where the 370z will have an advantage in a smaller, tighter track. Outside of performance the 5.0 has the "luxury" of back seats. The interior for the '11 GT (base and premium) still is nowhere near the quality of even the base 370z. The 370z just has that sports car feel versus the sedan feel of the 5.0 Even driving wise, the 5.0 feels... well it definitely feels bigger. However, I felt like in regular driving the 5.0 turns just as well the 370z and has a MUCH smoother ride. Note, that the feel is not nearly as sporty or fun as the 370z but when you get on the throttle, say good bye to the Zed. Overall impressions: the 370z is sportier and more fun to drive. Better interior, but rougher ride and louder cabin. The 5.0 is pure muscle car, the car pulls hard in ANY gear (drove the 3.73 pkg) and it can seat four. Also note: the 5.0 felt like it had a shorter shift. End all be all: if you want a sports car get the 370z. If you want a muscle car get the 5.0. Of course. So what are your guys' input for on-the-fence buyers? |
They are both great cars.
Drive each for your personal opinion and pick one which puts a better smile on your face. /thread |

And FWIW, the "Test Drove a 5.0" thread is the official 5.0 thread. |
Mustang looks the same to me. I didn't bother buying it because if that reason.
|
I looked at the 5.0s when I bought my Z. They are very nice cars. I just wanted something you don't see that often. In the past few months 2 people have bought 5.0s in my neighborhood. Unfortunately Mustangs are a dime a dozen.
|
I'm still in the market for my first Z and even though the Mustang may be more powerful and faster that the Z it does absolutely nothing for me.

My friend has the GT500 which is probably the only Mustang I'd even consider. It feels huge though and the interior is definitely marginal.

Oh, look. Another Mustang thread! lol
I need to write a macro to post this text blurb every time: "I like both cars. I love the Z. It fits me better. The Mustang is also awesome. And as a car enthusiast, I think we're living in awesome times, where everything from a grocery getter to SUV's, to lux vehicles to sports and muscle cars are improving in performance." :exhale: |
camaro's look better than the current mustang imho...
|
Can't go wrong with either car, they both have their advantages/disadvantages. American manufactures' build quality has risen to an impressive level. My '06 GT was pretty well built, IMO. It wasn't perfect, but it felt decently solid and had no major rattles. The new ones are even better. I like the 2011 Mustang, I would seriously consider a GT when it's time for another car.

On the looks department the 5.0 does not have anything against the Z. The Z looks like a exotic car. Just add a stillen S/C on the Z and you will have the best of both worlds (speed and looks). BTW the are a lot of other cars that the Z is going to be faster than, camaro, challenger maybe a GTR :ugh2:
|
(if you can get the Stillen SC to work. :p)

I'd rather have the new Camaro over the Mustang. It's a shame they don't offer Nav and the z28 isn't out yet. The interior is pretty bad though.
|
Oh, another Mustang thread :ugh2:
|
I think the new GT looks are improved, but I wish it looked more like the prototype did when it first came out.
Well, front engine was enough compromise for me, four seats would be going too far! Comparing C&D :D specs for my favorite 370Z & the GT, they don't seem that far off: Code:
Mustang 370Z |
Rag tests are worthless.
Honestly, Dreamer really said it best: get whatever makes you happy and don't worry about anything else. :D |
First you have to be able to afford what makes you happy ;)
|
Haha, not in America you don't!!! :icon18:
|
I am still shopping and for a while considered the 5.0 but every time I sit in a Z and take it for a test drive it makes me smile, so now I am just waiting for the 11's to show
|
11s are already around....
I will say this: It does not matter how much slower the stang is in the corners - after 2 straights the Z will be behind. With that said - would i trade my Z for a stang? Hell no - would I get a stang along with the Z? Of course I would if I had the spare cash. For what it is the new GT is an amazing bargain. Remember speed without finesse is just speed... and is not driving :) Driving happens when you and the car work together to fight the road and what it might throw at you. Worrying about how fast you are compared to the next guy lining up near you at the light is all well and good - but that gets old real fast. Controlling your rear end out of a tight corner - will always feel like a million dollars in a real drivers car. |

the 0-60 on that mustang looks a bit slow, should be more of the low 4 second range |
