Because they were achieved on a professional racing circuit or closed test track by a trained racing/test driver moving at 10/10ths, just thrashing the car around the track. 0-60 times? They achieve that with as perfect a launch as they can get, and how often are you accelerating that hard? skidpad/slalom? Only tell half of the story. 1/4 mile? Top speed? Even Horsepower! All a tad overrated for the avg driver.

To someone looking to track or drag their car, this stuff matters. To John Q. Driver, on public roads, with normal speed limits... What does it all mean, other than "on paper, my winkie's bigger"?

Fast cars are fast cars, man.

If you track your car, then I apologize. Lap times should matter to you.
Regardless of whether he is a average buyer or a track junkie the fact of the matter is the BMW M3 and the 2011 Mustang GT handle just as well as a Cayman S and the 370z if not better around the curves. This guy comes on here acting like he's the subject matter expert on handling of cars after driving 2 cars and stating a definitive fact that one car cannot out handle the other, just cracks me up.

No i didn't you said that. Track times are not accurate to jude the best drivers car. That is why the Mazda MX5 spanked a ton of higher end cars in the best driver's test MT did last year. I am only speaking from my experience and how I feel. Which is what everyone is doing also. Even the experts have differing thoughts on cars. In the end, it is all up to your personal liking.

The M3 and the GT do not handle better and are not the better driver's cars. I am sure there are more experts that will say that; however they may be better track cars (depending on the track). I will attest to that myself. That said, I will be tracking my car later, but even at that point, I do not care about lap times, I am in it for driving experience. For me the Z gives me the EXACT experience I want. It is a smaller, wide, and powerful car. The very same reason many BMW M3 guys want the 1 M Coupe. It is smaller and a better handler (in theory); more tossable. Is the Stang a better handler than an RX8? NO, but according to your theory, looking at lap times, it is far superior. And we KNOW it is not.

You are getting out of control and getting all worked up over someone else's thoughts and feelings. I have no idea what types of cars you have driven in the past, nor you I. I just know what I have experienced, and what I was looking for in my next car. I do not care if the Stang was faster than a Z06 at $40k, I would have gotten the Z still (or maybe the 1 m coupe).

LOL, the MX5 didn't spank anything except in the balanced handling category. That test was completely subjective.

The GT may not be a better drivers car but it handles just as well as all the cars you stated. Out of all the professional and personal opinions I have read on the 11 mustang GT it is capable of out handling many cars you would think otherwise. All I'm saying is the GT is no slouch.

Tangent:
I know it's not hip, but I have a man crush on Miatas. Firstly, I've driven one for an extended period, and they are hella fun. They occupy quite an interesting niche, really. Don't buy a Miata with the hopes of ever beating anything in a straight line. That's not why it's there. Do buy a Miata if you want to effortlessly flick through corners at high speeds and feel like you're driving a proper sports car. It won't beat many things around a track, but it is so inexpensive and reliable, that it's actually a great option for a track toy, so it sees a lot of racing action. Laugh at them as much as you like, but put on your automotive bucket list "drive a Miata hard on a windy road". Trust me, it's very good for the soul.

The 370Z might have had similar lap times compared to the older 295hp Porsche Cayman NOT the newer 09+ 320hp Cayman S. The current Cayman S is in E92 BMW M3 territory so if the 11 Mustang GT is indeed as capable as the M3 it will surely produce faster lap times vs. a Z around the track.

I don't know about Caymans, but I agree about the Stang pulling the Z around just about any track, if both are stock. Only a blind fanboy would argue the contrary.
