they put them on so it shows the lines? :bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

I know what they are for, but sitting still it just doesn't do the job it's intended for :ugh2:

I'm saying if the car is 200hp and over 2800lbs, it wouldn't be functional under all but very few circumstances.

Even the Z has a little lip spoiler on the sport package which although I'm not a fan of lip spoilers is better than nothing at all.

Yeah, and the aesthetics of it blow ***. The spoiler they had on the Toyota version at the unveiling was much more tasteful and not as Fast & Furious over the top as this.

Although (Apparently Isamu can see them anyways :p ) but for the rest of us, you can see it's not quite as striking as the Scion concept released earlier, but you can see a more refined actual car model. Looks kinda boring now... :ugh2:

Isamu 05-18-2011 12:09 PM

lol Cwiz, you bastard... you can basically make out the front, but it does a way better job in this pics... but yea, I still liked the older concepts better... meh

iff2mastamatt 05-18-2011 12:49 PM

More pics with it around the 'ring! I'll add some to the OP.

I want them to go back to the FT-86 Concept II design like in the OP. That one is pure sex. Black 'sports' car ftw.

XwChriswX 05-18-2011 01:00 PM

I just hate how they unveil the concept... Covered in angles that catch your attention and spark imagination.

Then because we somehow 'have to' you get the test mule, and eventually the final rendition of the sales model and all those angles and edges are smoothed out into curves.

Sometimes curves aren't everything... I want something sharp with edges. It's what adds artistic detail.

Oh well... :ugh2:

Sibze 05-18-2011 01:02 PM

Here is another pic of the front, big change!

yea, not feeling that at all..

XwChriswX 05-18-2011 01:05 PM

Starting to copy the Genesis front end with this look... Not sure.

Also the mirrors coming off the door like that with the mini windows in front?? Do not want. Looks like a Versa knock off... :ugh2:

Man this is going from :excited: :yum: to  :gtfo2: real quick... :ugh2:

Viera 05-18-2011 01:09 PM

They should have kept the body of the black one on the first page. This new look with the spy shots are just hideous... The lines of the body are very plain and dull looking. Way to go Scion/Subaru.........

that's like the fucking 4th gen eclipse... one of the biggest peeves I had about that one

nuTinmuch 05-18-2011 01:11 PM

I wouldn't start to turn on it just yet. Those swirls DO hide angles really, really well. Not to mention they can cover up and texture sort of angle (think of the Z's hood) really well, since they don't show depth.

Also this could be the Subaru version.

phelan 05-18-2011 01:14 PM

^ I was actually putting more faith in a good looking Subie versus the Scion version...oh well. Next!

If you look at the front end on them, you can see an oval shaped indentation for a logo... Take your pic as to whose would fit best there...

I was hoping the Subaru version would be the most interesting of the 3... :ugh2:

all we can do is speculate until we see an actual clear un-masked version.. however, I am losing faith...

:iagree: I love the overall shape of the car. I think the production version is gonna turn out to look good. I'm more worried about the specs and price of this car not turning out to my liking.

XwChriswX 05-18-2011 01:25 PM

I just wanna take one for a test drive already. :rofl2:

Lets go Toyota group! :icon17:

2012 Toyota FT-86 - Top Speed

Ok so i haven't read through this entire thread, but i just saw that this car is going to be powered by a 2.0 NA I4...

so much for it being fast..:icon14:. maybe faster than a civic.

Depends on if you are one of those that are still unrealistically thinking it will weigh under 2500lbs. If it's 2200 lbs with 200hp, it would be pretty damn quick. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I'm thinking it will be closer to 3000 lbs.

yea seriously... look at an S2000 or a Miata or a lotus, thats what a LIGHT car looks like. this thing is going to weigh closer to 3000lbs. lets face it. with all this eco and mpg rave, 'fast' is now 200hp, and with all the safety regulations, 3200lbs is now 'very light'

... not a good combination if you want a fast car.

If i can go out and buy a genesis with a 2.0T or this slow **** with a 2.0 NA, its not even much of a decision. wtf man. 2.0 NA :gtfo: i thought they were actually going to build a fast car.

theres not a car out there that can accuratley replace the 370Z, its just not gonna happen. the Z is its own beauty

yea this would be cool to replace an altima coupe.... not a Z. honestly the only Z i wouldn't rather have than this car is an 80's 300zx 2+2

flashburn 05-18-2011 04:47 PM

I still wouldn't mind getting it if its no more than 3000lbs, gets 35+ mpg highway, and is no more than $22k. I'd use it as a daily driver, and get something better as a more track dedicated car.

nuTinmuch 05-18-2011 05:56 PM

One reason why I'm still thinking about a Juke. Lowered on some 18 or 19's, and some extra HP, sounds pretty nice too me. Unfortunately the fuel efficiency isn't really what it should be.

I think it should be possible to get close to around 220-230whp on the Juke after some breather's and a tune. Uprev is working on tuning software for it now.

The 2011 Genesis 2.0T has 210 HP and has a curb weight of 3294. If the FT-86 has around 200 HP even if it weights 3000lbs it should be quicker than the genesis -- The NA vs. turbo is a red herring. Just because a car has a turbo'd version of an engine with the same displacement doesn't mean it will be quicker. Also, the 2.0T is an inline 4, the FT-86 should be based on Subaru's new boxer engine. The boxer configuration allows for a lower center of gravity and hence better handling and also is distributes the operating forces better.

I'll be disappointed if it ends up weighing 3k, but should still be a decently quick and fun car @2800 lbs and 200HP. It will boil down to the price point. If we are talking 26-27K for a nicely optioned one, that's acceptable. But, on the other hand if it breaks 30k with a suite of popular options like navigation, the price may be too much what you get.

/\ that's funny, we've been thinking about a Juke possibly as well. GTM is developing turbo kits (stage 1-3) and other stuff for it incl a bbk. Like you said, lowered about 1 1/2 to 2" with a nice set of 18's and it'd be a fun little dd.

It might use the 148hp motor, but it will have the D4-S (I think) injection which should add some hp. If this thing got 35mpg for 25K, I'd take it as if I had to sacrifice performance. Toyota never said this thing was a Genesis competitor (though I wish it will be), but one of the execs said that "it would be thousands less than the Z".

the Juke is a sweet little car man!

OT: I really hope this doesn't dissapoint... it started out so cool.. and just seems to become less and less with the more time that passes

intake/tune both of them and the genesis will run circles around the FT-86. there's little to no gains to be made an an NA car with a tiny motor.
