No, the original car was the FT-86, branded as a Toyota. And there was going to be a Subaru version still yet named/depicted/unveiled. The FT-86 has since been rebranded as a Scion under the name FR-S. So as it stands right now, expect 2 versions unless Toyota still keeps a few frames for their own brand...

would be pretty hot if Toyota dropped their own.. turbo version! yay toyrota!

From the few artist depictions of the proposed Subaru model, I can say I am leaning more towards the Toyota/Scion version. But I'm hopeful the final roll out model will look better. And if there would be a turbo'd one, I'd want it to be the Subie. Toyota hasn't messed with Turbo's since the Supra... They're a little out of the game with all the hybrid faggotry. :shakes head:

We shall see...

Seeing that youtube vid posted earlier and the camo'd pics, I really can't see this car being any lighter than 2900lbs and more than likely 3000 to 3100 and if it's only packing 200hp, it's just not going to be that rewarding/fast to drive. If I want a slow but fun car, I'd get a miata.

I'd just get a used 350Z as my daily driver! :D

good call, that'd be alot cheaper than one of these things new.

Zaggeron 05-23-2011 08:34 PM

^^ To each his own, but I'm looking for a 4 seater for a DD not another 2 seater. If they can keep it below 3k @ ~200HP, it'll work fine for my purposes.

Isamu 05-23-2011 11:57 PM

I would love to see this not fall away to the over 3k pounds crowd...

Think 2005 - 2010 mustang v6. Heavy and underpowered

And I thought there are only going to be 2 versions of the FT, a Scion and a Subaru. It will not be badged as a Toyota.

In the US, there will only be the Scion and the Subaru. However, in Europe and Japan (at least), the Scion will be badged as a Toyota. No one knows if Subie will officially go international with their FT-86 (or 2000 RS), but if should at least come to the states shortly after the Scion version.

Just hoping the Subi eventually gets turbo's. No way 2.0 L is gonna get enough power to separate it from the competition w/o them.

BalanBro 05-24-2011 04:06 PM

I still wonder if this will really becoma a Subaru. They've made so much hype about all their cars being AWD, that this would kinda ruin it for them.

It would be as ridiculous as Porsche coming out with an SUV or an ugly family sedan :stirthepot:

After the huge PR hit they've taken the last couple of years, they'd better do something amazing, and fast. I don't think there is a more boring line of cars out there than the stuff Toyota puts out.

Will it take you for half of everything you own when you trade it in for a newer model? If so I've already have the home version of those options.

:iagree:

Plus Toyota has not even tried to bring the Sport Car back after they kill the Supra. And please do not mention the Scion.... :shakes head:

I wish they would make a real LFA, not one that's "too good for anyone to buy"

Just a quick update, according a Japanese magazine (i'll scan as soon as I have time), the car weights 1150kg ------> 2540lbs.

Also, here are some recent articles.

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/449/frs4.jpg
http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/6237/frs5.jpg
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1628/frs6.jpg
http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/5454/frs7.jpg
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/5496/mt6z.jpg

If the weight stays around 2700lbs @ 200HP w/ 150lb tq at U.S. release, this could make it a very exciting enthusiast car similar in rank to the new Mazda MX-5s. However, I could see Scion screwing this car up and making it 3000lbs just so they could have it adjusted to the "SCION" look.

I highly believed any marketing statements from Toyota about turbo kit kit or extensive range of accessories would be totally crap. It's the same when the 7th gen Celica, MR-S, and Scion tC. All hype and very little "customization."

iff2mastamatt 11-27-2011 12:30 AM

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead since the reveal for the Scion FR-S/ Subaru BRZ is nearing!

Here are some nice pictures:
??? 86?????? | ??54 | ??? 86?????? ???????????

Rui Z 11-27-2011 01:48 AM

^nice pics.

kenchan 11-27-2011 03:30 PM

thanks for the picts... yah... not for me. :icon17: hahaha.

Spikuh 11-27-2011 05:26 PM

It looks like its squinting and doesn't know why....I think.

Isamu 11-27-2011 09:12 PM

Toyota GT 86 is the production version of the FT-86

iff2mastamatt 11-28-2011 09:14 AM

Apparently the newest spec sheet says that it requires premium gas. Anyone else a little surprised?

Sibze 11-28-2011 10:33 AM

Meh, not a fan. Doesn't look "strong" enough

Cmike2780 11-28-2011 02:32 PM

I like it. Not more than the Z, but I like it. I'd buy this or the BRZ over a Genesis Coupe, even if it has lower power rating. I think more people will switch, considering the Gen Coupe facelift looks like caca.
