I thought the rumor was that the "next supra" was going to be the new Lexus. That never panned out.
|
The supra name needs to be a car above the Z in power/performance/quality.
This is a great car that is a replaced for Nissan's 240sx in a modern world, until Nissan brings back the 240sx. |
Based on days of yore, a Supra would be a top of the line Celica with a 6 cyl engine and would be a direct competitor for the Z car.
All of that can happen with the FT-86... |
Probably not, because from the get go the design around this car was the Subaru engine.
I could see this being a stepping stone for Toyota back into the game and if this does well the new Supra might be back on the table. Also, the turbo version will be in the Subaru car, Toyota is getting the NA car. |

If they build a Supra the 370Z is the clear competitor as it always was. Why would they compete with the Corvette, which is a GT-R competitor? I just don't see it. And in that last article, Toyota said they were still considering a turbo version, so we may or may not have to turn to Subaru for that... |

I've read somewhere that the Toyota CEO would love to build a revived Supra, but the company does not feel it's the right time to create such a car. Also, they just built the LFA, shouldn't they use a little break? If the LFA was around 100K and was mass produced, it might be just as popular as the GTR. |
Apparently this car is set to be released back on track in November 2011!!
Report: Contrary to rumors, Toyota FT-86 development on track, expected Nov. 2011 — Autoblog |
Kinda looks like a mini GT-R with the body kit
|
I was reading on Road & Track on my way to home to a family emergency that Toyota is thinking about making a baby FT-86.
Only like 200HP, the body looks good on the pic. |

Sorry if its already been stated but IMO they need to bring back some old school names to really get this car going, call it the Celica since its gonna be a 20k car or so and get some buyers who are loyal to that car line. Hybrids are utter fail and sales are terrible across the board, hell Honda has taken a nose dive into them and cancelled almost all of their Hybrid cars to stick with normal gas cars, and I dont even wana begin to rant on how crappy the crz is with its "sporty" 10 sec to 60 numbers. My idea, Toyota makes it good if it has over 200 hp or more and brings back an old name. If they make it hybrid and has some crappy 130hp it will die quickly because Americans just hate hybrids unless your some tree hippie and in that case you already have a hybrid called the Prius that toyota makes:bowrofl:

|
Well, it appears the FT-86 concept II has recently shed some teaser pics, hopefully this is very close to the production model!

This car looks amazing, except for the wheels. and I have mixed emotions on the seat. but I would love to drive this car.
|
u need a car

I sure do.

Toyota doesn't make sports cars anymore. It will never come out.
|

I did t mean to destroy any dreams. Just stating facts. Oh does anyone know what ever happen to the FT-HS?

Apparently only Bigfoot could heel-toe an FT-86. You could rest your foot between the brake and throttle. And why is the shifter uncircumcised?
|
I like it. The interior is going to change a lot but I hope the exterior remains untouched.
I hope they offer a range of engines from a weak 4 cyl (econ), a turbo 4 cyl, and a nice v6. Quote:

Only other option that is still rumor is some sort of hybrid style like the CR-Z to complement the turbo 4. |

Besides, any car that cuts its A/C off at traffic lights in a 100 degree weather just to "save gas" is full of fail. Quote:

On the V6 side, I think if the stars align and the FT-86 does well and they can bring some LFA tech into the lower price we might see a RWD V6 from Toyota. |
It has been a while since this thread has discussed the FT-86, but much has been learned in the past two months! First off, Scion will be revealing the "FT-S" at the NYAS April 20th, which will likely be Toyota's variant of the FT-86 in North America. Though a second concept was shown in March at the Geneva Auto Show, it will probably not make it to NA (or at least as a Toyota). However, I'm wondering if any Z owners are considering the FT-S as a next car, because it may be a Z competitor if made right. Just my 2 cents, cheers!
