The issue with that figure is that batteries start diminishing in their capacity as they are used; one-hundred optimal miles is ambitious. Short hauls might be acceptable, but in Southern California this will not go far. As much as I cannot stand GM anymore (after the bailout) their Volt concept—provided GM actually pulls it off—is a better step in the right direction, and for the transitional phase upon us.
