Default Test drove a 2018 GT350

So I had a GT as a rental a few weeks ago in the Northwoods of Mn. I decided to go take a local GT5350 for a test drive....well it was around the block and I never got about 40 MPH...I went to Koons Falls Church and they let me take a brand new one out, which in itself is pretty are. So its a Mustang, but its pretty nice inside for what it is....pretty smooth and drove well, but only having 25 miles on it....i kept it below 4k rpm. Played with the exhaust setting, did not put it in sport or track mode. So in the end, I did not learn enough to see if I wanted to buy one or not. I'll go take a used one out, and give it a good go.

I know there are plenty of brand snobs out there that belittle the Mustang in all forms, but I really like them. Even if I do see a fair number of them out and about. LOL!

It’s definately above the GT and I rarely see them out driving, least in my area. My concern with them is the number of engine failures due to oil consumption. But Ford has been replacing the engines, and perhaps here in 2018 they have fixed the production lines. I’ve been in my C4S for two years and I like it. But it’s pricey to maintain as I had to get a new taillight that was 600 dollars, it’s OEM led style. The yearly service is about 650 too. I’ll be retiring in perhaps a year and half, so it might be smart to go back to American muscle car for that. Cheaper to maintain and so are parts. I was offered a Red 2017 with 3k off the MSRP. It got sold but pretty sure I can get a 2018 at MSRP. At 55 I’m not overly concerned if others deride Mustangs. The first muscle car I rode in was an actual 1965 Shelby Mustang that a friend brothers owned in 1975 or so.

For me, the problem with Mustangs is there are way too many of them out there. They’ve become almost as common as Corollas.

The new mustang is nice. And the refresh looks tough in person. Unique cars are wonderful when there's a unique car out there that can perform for the money. Right now. Shyt is dry out there. You have the Q60 and the Stinger. The Q60 chassis and transmission are crap. So if you're looking for a sports car drive that you can respect for under $50k. You can only pick camaro, mustang, and the 300hp q60 with very few options to keep it under 50k Or a Kia Stinger but everyone talks crap bout Hyundai so exclude them. The 370z is outdated for the money. It's a used car purchase at new car prices... The market doesn't have anything special under 80k. That's just the reality unless you buy a gran sport corvette or a Boxster.

Buying a GT350 is a unique mustang, though a mustang is not unique! Feel me? If it drives like an exotic. Rushes your adrenaline and you having fun? Sometimes you gotta buy uncommon within the common to do that.

Drove it home. When you switch the exhaust to sport mode. It’s loud and sounds great. Too much traffic in DC and Va to go to sport mode on the engine mapping and magnetic ride. Had track mode too. No way I’ll do that in town. Also drag mode is available. Got to go read the manual more. The Apple Car play is great too. Do I miss the 911? Nope.

Congratulations the 2018 Shelby GT350 is a really fun vehicle to own! Having owned a Ford Mustang I could tell you that parts are expensive and sometimes hard to get for the GT350 a lot like the Foose edition Ford Mustang GT. Also if you do decide to purchase a GT350 I hope you get the extended warranty they have their corks. The excessive engine oil consumption issue they are plagued with is one of the things to be concerned about.

I've had two 911'1 C4Ss and a B6S4 and an B5A4, pretty sure a Mustang won't cost as much as they did to keep going. I elected not to get the extension, as it comes with 3 year 36K miles bumper to bumper and 5 years engine power train. Thats enough for me. I did get the wheel and tire insurance though. DC, Va, and MD roads kill tires. I'll keep an eye on oil consumption, as I did lots of research on that before I pulled the trigger. Ford has replaced a few engines, but by now in its third year of production and they should have the kinks worked out. The Voodoo engine sound unreal, Had it on the same backroads I used to take the 911s on today and its just as fun. Bigger and heavier but until you drive a GT350, its hard to convey how it drives.....its a few notches above the regular GT for sure. Got to get it up to 600 miles before I can take it to the 8200 redline. think about that, a V8 cross plane crank going to 8200 rpm.
