I'll admit - the Accord over Maxima thing was to further my argument. That's definitely the closest margin there is of the comparisons I laid out. I do like the Maxima a good bit, but the Accord is offered with a third pedal. It's also a hell of a nice vehicle optioned out, and is very close to the Maxima. I also consider the Accord to be in the premium area the Maxima occupies, but not the Camry. The CVT torpedoed my potential Maxima purchase when life dictated that I needed four doors and a back seat - one of the first things I drove was the new Maxima... hated the transmission. Like all CVTs, it felt like it was watering down the engine. The Q50 felt like an entirely different animal when it was only slightly different on paper due to its 7AT.

That said, I know I'm not using a third pedal now (and life is making is less of a priority for me), but the second Infiniti offers a Q50 in a stick, I will order one. I'm not holding my breath, however.

I'll also caveat that when the Sentra NISMO concept debuted a few years ago, I was heavily entertaining one for a daily given what they were talking about at the time - near 300hp turbo four, wider and lower than the regular Sentra, Recaro seats, etc. I was absolutely going to consider that in the pack of cars I was looking at. That, to me, was an evolution of NISMO performance that would have commanded my dollar, FWD and all. That car would have been worthy among the WRXs, GTIs, and Focus STs of the world.

The NISMO we got will get romped by a Fiesta ST.

They really should have given it at minimum the 215HP version of the same engine, a suitable AT and independent suspension.

This Nismo does greatly reduce my hope for a promising Z. They hyped up making the NISMO division more pure sports and aftermarket friendly. If this is their first iteration of a more aggressive Nismo? It's a major fail. I'm gonna consider trading up to the current Nismo body style and getting a premium sports car of another brand. I guess there won't be a Z34 and 35 in my garage like I hoped. Those Jun exhaust cams would make the Z sound much more interesting. I could get the Nismo up to 400+hp NA mods I guess? I really wanted a turbo Z.

Interesting - STI better than your Z? Powerful statement.

I hate VW, but out of the current offerings in the class, it's the winner. However, I don't know why the Focus ST wasn't mentioned in the video... different class? WRX... different class?

I like Motoman a lot. You can see he's doing his best to be objective but is extremely disappointed in the car.

Just as I suspected - this car is a $25k release price away from a total turd flop.

wat do u hate about VW? not dat im any kind of vw fan or GTI fan i dont really care. just curious.

ive never considered VW before my current GTI, but the primary reason why i got it is mainly to try DSG long term to see if i can like it enough to consider future sports cars with dual electronic clutch.. i also liked the GTI's nice leather interior (autobahn package), and no wavy body lines which i hate.

So motoman gave this a review. They said it was a good car when you don't compare it to anything. So it's bottom of the barrel. Everything that was said here came to fruition.

I saw another review which stated this car was better than a civic sport. That is not a civic si or type R though.

Everyone says it needs the 215HP Juke engine. It lacks apple carplay and Android auto. The biggest deal are dampers, spoiler, bigger Michelin pilots and a really smooth shifter.

VW reigns, Mazda 3 falls in 2nd and that's without a Mazdaspeed. (Smh). The new Elaborate sport is almost getting to the third place spot. Chevy is expected to answer Nismo and other cars.

In other words. Nissan fell behind.
Nissan is the equivalent of Honda and Toyota in 2000.

dat really sucks cause GTI's come out of the gate with great suspension (mine rides VWRacing springs which lower the ride a bit and drives REAL nice), has carplay/android auto, superb stereo, and i hear the MT shifts nicely too (mine is DSG).

only down side is the shitty tires VW put on my ride which were some junkook a/s tires which i immediately swapped to DWS06 with light weight OZ HLT wheels. dat alone transformed the car to a whole new level + added intake and piggyback. it's frikken miles ahead of dat pos nismo sentra in handling, power, interior, etc. etc.

I dislike VW because I was a former owner of a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg, and it was the biggest hunk of garbage I have ever spent money on. The cars are great for their first 30k miles, and quickly show the corner-cutting put into building (plastic oil dipstick tubes, shitty electronics, etc).

I owned that car 2.5 years. It was VW certified with 28k miles on it when I bought it. From 28k to 80k, I went through a center console, glove box, four power window switches (three driver's door, one rear passenger door), a trunk release (the actual hardware - rigged it with zip ties and a spring from a bic click pen and it lasted longer than the factory hardware), a coolant temperature sensor, four mass airflow sensors, bank 2 o2 sensor, an engine wiring harness, rear brake caliper hardware, two front wheel bearings, and a transmission and clutch (trans failure was at 31k miles, btw).

It was cheaper for me to get out of the car into a more expensive (at the time) Sentra SE-R Spec V (2004 model) than to keep driving and fixing it.

I don't know how anything is from model 2010 going forward, but any VW I've seen with age has had quality problems. I have had things break on my Nissans, but I have never been concerned with being able to get to where I need to go when I turned the key. There were several times when I turned the key to start my Jetta and I had plans for someone to come get me along the way just in case. That's just unacceptable for a car with that age and mileage to me. I would say I might have had a lemon, but I had several friends with that generation Jetta and GTI that had several significant problems as well.

I hate it because the car was a BLAST when it worked. I loved it. But when it broke it was never less than $400 to fix. That was a tough pill for a poor college kid.

Then you must never have experienced ESCL or CSC failure on the Z
