like a battery isolator style relay? Something like 100 amp?

Ron 09-11-2011 12:20 AM

I have a question. My Sony XNV-770BT has two wires labeled SPEED IN and REVERSE IN. Where are those supposed to be connected?

reverse wire is to connect to a power wire that only turns on when you are in reverse, so it can tell the reverse camera to turn on if you have one, eg, the reverse tail lights power wire.

The speed wire is to connect to a speed sensor to help with navigation when your satnav signal is in and out - if you have one.

No just a regular relay, just make sure it is rated for what you want to run.

Equinox 09-11-2011 07:33 AM

yeah I did a little research, and I ran 10 AWG wire to the center console, and mounted a relay and 30A inline fuse under the main cup holder, so I can just pop it off if I ever need to check the fuse. I wanted to use 8 AWG but radio shak stopped selling 8awg by the foot in my area, and just had spools of 30' 10 and 12awg wire :( Where do you normally grab your wire?

Thank you! I wired the cam's and HU wire to the green/white cable that goes to the reverse bulb, works like a charm.

For the SPEED IN wire.. should I just tap into the yellow cable on pin18 of the car's audio harness?

That's the one.

http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/2...rse-wires.html

the idea is so the radio knows how fast you are traveling when the radio can't see the gps satellite. This way, gaps in your gps signal will be seamless, since it will just use your speed as a guide for where you are on the map until the gps signal returns. Driving through a tunnel, otherwise, would have your car's icon sit at the beginning of the tunnel on the map, and then pop onto the otherside once you're out of it and can see the satellite again.

Ron 09-12-2011 11:52 AM

Thanks Equinox! I'll go wire that right now :D One last question, would you happen to know where to connect the 3.5mm jack that comes out of the axxess aswc?

Ron 09-12-2011 01:26 PM

Darn.. guys besides the big yellow cable for 12v I dont have any other yellow one... there is nothing connected on the spot for pin 18..

edit - installation manual has "remote in*6" listed on the radio, and no clue what it is on the installation manual. Damn you Ron, and your Sony head unit's installation manual.

Ron 09-12-2011 03:34 PM

Thanks Equinox, I installed the 3.5mm jack on the "remote in" jack of the sony HU. I got it all configured now and it's working perfectly!! I am gonna leave the speed signal wire disconnected for now but I need to figure it out eventually because I think the boost controller I got also feeds from it.

Equinox 09-12-2011 03:42 PM

Funny thing is, crutchfield says Axxess and PAC work with your Sony, but according to Crutchfield neither work with my Kenwood DNX9140

Very clean install yet again!

I have a question, is it okay to mount an amp to the sub box? I never have because traditional amps have more stuff that can get messed up but what about the newer digital amps?

bigaudiofanat 09-22-2011 11:57 AM

There are people that say yes and people that say no to that question. I am sort of in the middle if your going to be running over 900 watts RMS I would say no under I would say yes. However I would only do it as a last resort.

fairladyZ34 09-22-2011 12:07 PM

I dont think i would need 900 rms, only thing is that im like out of space in my trunk and my box options are limited because of this

Effective immediately I will ask every customer who's car I work on to pay at least half the labor cost up front.

The fallowing link explains why.

Complaint about BlueAC - DIYMA.com - Scientific Car Audio - Truth in Sound Quality

Also any used equipment that is brought to me I can not guarantee it to work properly as I do not know the previous condition of the equipment.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to anyone including my customers.

I still strive to be the best in friendly service, fair prices, and reliable and clean installs.

Thank you

Thanks man! I'm going to PM you as well.

A+++, Big ups to Matt. Did my Headunit this weekend. Was there on time, did a great job, no issues, good price. I'll provide my details in my build thread, but would recommend Matt over most of the local installer places here in BK.

bigaudiofanat 10-09-2011 11:17 AM

YES I do car detailing as well. Here is a writeup

So yesterday I got to do a vehicle that really needed TLC. This time was my first time using the full adam's products on a car. I have to say I was very happy.

The car gets detailed once a year however from what I will explain it was never really done.

Steps used

2 bucket wash
Clayed
Swirl and haze remover
Polish
2 Coats of Americana

The car

Hi bigaudiofanat

What would you suggest as a upgrade to the stock bose Audio system?

Keeping everything looking as stock as possible (would prefer to use the original head unit)

Cheers!

bigaudiofanat 10-28-2011 02:06 PM

I am now a proud sponsor of Show and Go garage a car show on Crusin 92.1 on Wednesday nights between 9-10. I also will be working on vintage cars and possibly working for other car clubs. Doing everything from car detailing, to fiberglass to remote starts and alarms. Pictures will be taken of every car I do as I have always done including every step of my installs, I hide NOTHING. Also a sponsor in the local magazine Crusin here are some pics of that.

If you want to keep the original head unit use a JBL re-q5 and add all new amps as you can not use new speakers with the bose amp.Than run all new speaker wires to the new speakers. There are a few threads on this search around for more info and if you are in doubt feel free to ask.

vettett15 11-17-2011 08:44 PM

Matt,

Had a couple questions, I should be picking up my 2012 base here soon but I've been reading through the audio section to get some ideas. I'm a big home audio guy, mainly 2 channel but I also built up a Rythmik audio 15".

For the Z I would like to replace the head unit, a 5 channel amp and throw in a component set. I'm not sure that I want a sub in the car, but figure a 5 channel amp would allow for easier future upgrading. Having said that, I would like a component set that fills in the bottom end, which you seem to say that the ID CXS64 V2 do nicely. I was looking and noticed that the CXS64 V1? (WoofersEtc.com - CXS64 - Image Dynamics 6.5" 2 Way Component System) seem to play a little lower. I know there are a lot of factors in determining this and specs aren't everything I was just curious if you knew anything about that.

Anyway, here is my list so far, please critique as you see fit:

Head Unit: Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD or Kenwood DDX418
Kinda like the idea of the bigger screen on the Pioneer

Speakers: Really bouncing back and forth on this one between Hertz HSK165, Focal 165V30 and ID CXS64 V1/V2

Amp: Alpine PDX 5

What would a typical install cost me, I know I am leaving other stuff out like wheel controls, spacers, etc.

bigaudiofanat 11-19-2011 05:23 PM

Today I redid a install on a Subaru Legacy 2010. The system had:

Stock head unit
JBL MS-8
Memphis 6.5 woofers
MB Quartz tweeters
JL amps

The problems:
The previous installer said they could install a MS-8 but had no idea on how to tune it.
The MS-8 was sending out a 1 way full channel setup going to mb quartz crossovers than the signal was going to a second crossover from memphis than to the woofer.

So I ran a new wire straight from the woofers to the JL amp. The tweeters did this as well.

Than I tuned the system running 2 way active and no rears. Sounded pretty good. Customer was happy as well which is what counts.

Now the pics.
