Hi bigaudiofanat,

New 370z owner here. I like the installs you've done. Quality looking stuff.

I was wondering what part you used to replace the dash that surrounds the stock Bose system and climate controls for the Z in the above pics.

I was really disappointed to see the same stereo "integration" in my car since I did not want the stock Nav system (should have got it anyway.....?) and was hoping for an aftermarket solution - I should have paid more attention, but I was waaaaay too excited about the rest of the car:driving:. All seemed lost until I saw your post.

Again, nice work.

toxik 09-12-2010 08:06 AM

Just wanted to thank you matt for helping me out on tuning the amp. Also, the audio 101 was very helpful as well.
Thanks Lou

P.S. You need to let me know if there's a HU dash kit for 2010 Accord? He has everything else ready to go.

Thanks anyway.

Matt asked me to post some more pics of my headunit in this thread, so I finally got around to doing it, here they are:

camera mounting point:

I finally got Pandora to work through Pandora Link. Because I don't have an Iphone, I used Wi-Fi Tether on my Droid in order to connect to the internet with my ipod touch and be able to load Pandora on to the unit. It sounds complicated but it's actually fairly easy once its set up, and works flawlessly... who needs sirius?

Customer Review
"Matt (bigaudiofanatic) recently did a big install in my Mazda 6 and I couldn't be happier with the results. I first pm'd Matt for advice on what to get and he had plenty of good suggestions and answered every question I had. Seeing all of the positive feedback he has for his installs I decided to go to him for the install as well. I got a kenwood head unit with bluetooth and a metra steering wheel adapter, polk db 6.5 components for the front, polk db 5x7 components for the rear, a cadence amp for the speakers, a bazooka tube sub, a profile amp for the sub. Matt knocked all of this out in a single day, but by no means did he rush. He ran new wires, modified the stock tweeter mountings so the new tweeters would fit, used dynamat to fill in the gaps in the speaker mountings, soldered ever wire and used heat shrink...the list of little extra touches goes on. He treats your car like its his own, and he really takes his time and does clean work. I bombarded him with questions during the install and he happily answered all of them. He even taught me how to solder. If you want a thorough, clean, professional install for an incredibly reasonable price take all of your questions and your car to Matt. You will NOT be disappointed."

I finally got my dad to allow me to put new speakers in his element. He did not want a new head unit, "as of yet" but he did allow me to go ahead with new speakers. Tomorrow will probably do the fronts and install the polk mm components. This element does have the higher output stereo which means the new speakers can get more power. Before you ask you can not do the same with your bose system.

Let's get started.

Kenwood DNX 5140 with Polk MM6501 speakers

Matt:

I believe the Kenwood DNX 5140 HU is rated 50 watts peak, but I do not know it RMS rating. Does this HU have adequate power to run a set of Polk MM6501 speakers? If not, will a Alpine KTP -445 amp rated at 45 RMS plug directly into the back of a Kenwood DNX 5140 HU?

The kenwood usually does 22 watts RMS and is not recommended to run polk mm directly. The alpine ktp445 pack you speak of will NOT plug directly into the kenwood and will require time to wire it into both harnesses for it to work.

Hey Matt, I PMed you a few weeks ago to no avail about a potential job in Baltimore. Can you PM so I can give you the details?

NYBladeZ 01-19-2011 06:31 PM

Hey Matt,
Your work speaks for itself. I know a lot of your installs are pretty intense stuff. I wanted to go a lot simpler. I'm looking to swap out my stock system for a single din head unit and upgrade my speakers. I'll never be adding a sub, I want a simple setup that I can hook my ipod to. I don't need navigation, bluetooth or satellite. I also don't want a separate amp, I run a tiny braille racing batter. What head unit and speaker setup would you go with suggest?

birdmanx1 01-23-2011 10:21 PM

All, I am probably not saying anything new on this forum but Matt (bigaudiofanat) did a FANTASTIC job on my nismo this weekend and I am way oversatisfied with the quality of his workmanship, his work ethic and patience.

There was so much work to be done and Matt tackled it like a champ. Matt, I hope you enjoyed the Audi R8 experience from your shakiness (I had to let all know), maybe next time around we'll get to go around for a ride.

Pics to come in shortly in album.

I would recommend the polk db's for running of the head unit and any of the alpine head units because there ipod integration is much better than other brands. Also if you wanted a little extra power there is a add on amp alpine makes that you plug into the back of your head unit and hides behind the head unit with no additional wires to run.

Zowners, I am not saying anything you didn't know already but I just wanted to add that Matt is a very talented installer. I was the one slowing him down during the work with the constant food breaks and pics shots. He is like a driven mad cow on steroids :icon18:

It was 19degree and windy but Matt cracked up jokes throughout the install and did a phenomenal install job ...glad to have you down this past weekend in Bmore and thanks for the scary driving experience; now I know why my girl gets scared when riding with me on the passenger side :shakes head:

Enough said, gotta go watch 300 in my new hangout place in the garage, Matt, you think you could hook me up with a 3D projector system and popcorn machine in the car :tiphat:
