The driver, who works for Junior’s Pizza in Boonton, had left the sports car running in a fire lane in front of the Smith Road hotel, police said.
hmmm.... brand new 2009 370Z idling in front of a hotel unlocked... Heck even I am tempted to take it for a spin!

This happened many times before with Dominos Pizza I Managed during HS. Basically people would take delivery drivers car (if it's a good car) for a spin. Cops usually (every case) found the car next day at a street corner or w/e.

Don't you have to leave key fob inside the car for someone to be able to drive away with the car? or is it only necessary for start up?

If the cars left running, and the fob is with owner the car can be driven by someone else till it's turned off, at that point they no longer can start it.
