I agree that it won't be a $30k base price car anymore, but I highly doubt the base price will be anywhere near $40k. I see it starting right around $35k then with full options, $45k max. You also have to consider the likelihood that there will be a Nismo option. Seeing as the current 370Z Nismo starts at $45k, that's $15k over the base 370Z. If the new Z started at $40-45k that would most likely mean the new Z Nismo would start upwards of $55-60k. At that price range you're probably looking at many other sports cars.

There isn't as much R&D expense needed to create the new Z (mainly because Nissan can't afford it), therefore, there should be no realistic financial reasoning to hike the base price up very much. The new Z appears to be more existing 370Z underneath than new upgrades. Everything added to the new Z is pretty much taken from existing Nissan/Infiniti models and, while they are nice upgrades and I'm happy to see them, the upgrades aren't exactly premium materials we expect to see in today's standards.

Last thing to add, if this new Z would fail in sales the first year, I'd be willing to bet Nissan would discontinue it within the following five years. Nissan needs to do everything they can to beat the Supra. The best way to do that is to sell a Z car that offers similar/better performance and drivability for an absolute bargain.

Still not a fan of the square grill but everything else on the car I can confidently say I'm perfectly fine with and I'm sure I'd love it when looking at it in person.

Also here is the same closeup video but with accurate English subtitles now included so we know exactly what they're talking about.

I'm one of those JDM-ish enthusiasts who are not at all interested in the BMW Supra. I am extremely disappointed that Toyota used BMW to make a "Supra".

Youtube is full of videos on how not-very-old BMWs can be a total nightmare to keep running. Toyota is/was legendary for their reliability. Nissan, whilst not always as good as Toyota, is far far better than BMW as far as reliability is concerned.

I don't see the new 300Z TT being able to out-perform the latest Supra. This is where BMW shines. However, I don't doubt that the 300Z will be able to come VERY close to the new Supra. And all the while being an ACTUAL reliable Japanese car for slightly less will be more than good enough for me.

There will be quite a few of us middle-aged people who fondly remember the glory days of Japanese cars of the late 80's, early 90's and will buy these new Z's to keep for a long time. The Nissan Z is the only car available connected to those good ol' days, the new BMW Supra definitely misses that demographic.

On a side note, I AM interested to see the new BRZ, rumor has it may receive a turbo motor this time around. That car would be a great car too.

They can make it just under 30k for vase price if they come out with a 4cyn engine version.
Imo to keep the sales up, they should offer a 4cyn version that's just under 30k.

I'll be in my bunk!

"It will come out in this form," declared Nissan's Chief Product Specialist, Hiroshi Tamura, as transcribed by Best Car. Tamura reportedly added that in keeping with the Z's affordable roots, the next Z will be sold at a "buyable price [sic]."

This pretty much confirms that the price of the new Z should NOT increase very much. Great news.

Sounds like a typical modern Z/Infiniti. Nothing amazing or glorious (stock), but nice.

Will probably sound just like the Q60 with sports exhaust.

I wonder how hard it would be to put a 400Z steering wheel in a 370Z. LOL
