I have had my "extra long/non-official" springs in for a few weeks now and the rear hatch pops open nicely every time still.

However, I am noticing a rattling noise caused by these springs, reason being the gap is now larger between the hatch and car body. I was hoping the springs would wear some and minimize the gap, but I think that I will request the replacement(TSB) springs back and live with the problem until there is a final solution.

PS. Holding the button down does not help on my car.

Seriously, I know some of you guys are afraid of going to the dealer (understandably) but it is literally a couple minute job and you can stand over them while they do it.

I totally agree that it is a 'couple minute job' YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY NUTS if you think it will take NISSAN a couple of minutes to do ANYTHING!

My service manager laughed when I said it was a 2-minute job. He said, uh, not quite. I didn't say anything but I had the urge to smack him. I waited 45 minutes, had a cup of coffee and chatted with the sales guys while they pretended it was a big job. lol.

I've had my springs replaced at the dealer, and this has caused a small squeek because the hatch doesn't sit down snug as it should. It has the gap you're talking about too.

Imagine, there are other countries beside the USA. My dealer refuses to replace the springs cause there is no TSB from Nissan Europe.

Great. After my epic struggle to eliminate the rattle in the headliner, I'm going to have something done that will create a new noise?
Right now, all I have to do is press the button a second time when the hatch doesn't release. I might prefer that to a squeaky hatch.

Nissan (Sweden) has actually helped me as much as they can, despite the lack of a European TSB. As I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, the maintenance manager found the new parts number (as per the US TSB) in the Nissan computerized spare parts system and ordered it.

Then when I was also unhappy with the new replacements, he ordered the longer version, which belongs to another Nissan model.

Today, I returned to the dealer with the gap problem and I now have both versions to experiment with.

A photo of the penny trick would be nice to see from someone.

I believe Nissan in Germany and/or Belgium still have an obligation to make the car work properly while it is under warranty, even without a TSB? Just tell Nissan it is their problem to solve and see what they do.

Good luck.

they tried lowering the part that the hatch latches onto so it is a tighter fit so that the springs would push the hatch open harder.

worked for a while but it died after a month
