all I'm saying is that with no formal TSB issued, the dealer is not going to be the one who decides whether or not they fix your car. if you walk in all meek and don't talk to the right people, they'll just send you on your way forcing you to use loose change to "fix" your $30-40k car.

In my case, the dealership tells me they have to recreate the issue with one of their techs. However, Murphy's Law never allows for the issue to arise when I am at the Nissan Delearship. I took it to the dealership 3 times for this issue, but every F'ng time it would not do it their .. even AFTER I checked it and recreated the issue at home. So to avoid wasting my time, I just dropped in 2 pennies for each side and it appears to work so far.

when i brought mine in it was probably about 80% broken. i tested it right when i got to the dealer and pulled into the service lane, still broken. tech came out and it worked. tried again and it didn't work on like the 3rd time. all it had to do was fail once. they took it into the bay and verified it and crap then they were ready to agree it was broken.

when i took mine in, i purposely waited a few days for the springlifts to settle in and didnt access the cargo area for those few days...

so the day i took it in i let the service manager try and sure enough it didnt pop open on the first or second attempt, however the third and fourth attempts were successful by him...i thought he was going to send me on my way lol

then he said hold on a minute and we walked over to another 370z with a sports package on the lot and he popped that hatch and it popped the first time and everytime after that, so he swapped the springlifts from that z to mine and put mine on the new z...i thought well ok ill give it the benefit of the doubt...so he puts them on my z and sure enough they worked 3 times in a row, so i thought what the heck!

i left the dealer drove home parked in the garage and thought let me test it... nope it didnt open! i was mad at that point, but not at the service manager...

i immidiately called him and told him about it and he said ill take care of it. he opened a wokr order and got the parts manager to order the longer ones and ive not had a problem since! pops first time everytime. and i didnt even buy my z from this nissan dealer!

seems like that's the common factor. make sure to bring it to a dealer that you did not buy your car from.

A TRUE FIX IS HERE!

I've been waiting to finally post this for my service manager to get them in stock, but they have a fixed part.

They changed the spring lift part number to 84415-1EA1E and they are longer and stiffer. They are backordered, so it might take some time to actually get the replacement in stock once you bring in your car.

You just need them to look up the replacement part number for the spring lifts and they will see that the part number has been updated which will give them the go ahead to order you replacements under warranty.

Default Truth is indeed stranger than fiction

I did the penny trick yesterday morning...it works!

Yesterday evening got a call from Nissan, "your part is in."

Today I went to pick up the part, the service manager said, "are you going to leave your car or wait?" I replied, "What?!?!?!?!?!" His reply, "since it's under warranty a tech must replace it and it has to go through the proper paperwork." My reply, "can't you just give me the part?" His reply, "no."

I then smiled, walked out to my car, pushed the start button, and left. I'll pay the $100 for the spring lifts before waiting 2 hours for a job that can be done in less than 3 minutes. Of course the service manager was being an ***, but he helped with my decision on never purchasing another Nissan.

I've always wanted an M3, so yeah...I'll be talking with the asses at BMW next!

Stop loading up your cars with pennies, it isn't a vending machine!

Nope, the hatch should lift up about 6 inches to 12 inches so you can with one hand push the button and with the same hand lift it to a fully open position.

The hatch has to lift enough to clear the latch, that is all. It's probably less than two inches, just enough to get some fingers in there.

Educ8r - sucks that the SM was worthless where you went, but that's how the tech gets paid and how the shop is able to write it off as a warranty. Told me the same thing, but having multiple mechanics in the family I already knew what to expect.

This was the day I got them installed, probably a smidgen lower now, but I still haven't seen it fail once since the install.
