Hey kdo, did you have your springs replaced already? I know I should have read the whole thread but if you did was it a local dealer in or around Austin? I'm having some difficulty with Round Rock Nissan and Soutpoint was a hassle this past week. I'm runnin out of dealers here in Austin!!

good stuff...i think i will not have to worry about this issue anymore

:tiphat: my hats off to the service manager at Bates Nissan!!! he was awesome and I will be letting Nissan HQ know when they follow up with me :D

He got them replaced, and it looks like it was at Bates Nissan. I'd recommend going to my galleries and printing out my service invoice. It seems to have helped some people get this pushed through.

NewlyIMPORTed 10-26-2009 11:59 PM

i have never had this problem i walk up to the car all the time and i dont unlock it i just hold the release for a second and it always opens no problem. i hope it stays that way

vipor 10-27-2009 08:18 AM

The problem may "disappear" on newer Zs as the part(s) we're getting replaced have been officially supersceded by the new parts (eg. 71A.) Basically the newer mfg date, the more likely it will have the new part already.

ChrisSlicks 11-02-2009 03:27 PM

Mine has started acting up occasionally now, it pops up halfway and then you have to press the button again to get it to open the rest of the way.

Thanks for the info, I will follow up with my dealer.

Oh, and I need to change my vote!

TBSS2008 11-02-2009 03:44 PM

Just starting happening to me too. I thought maybe I needed to grease the trunk shocks but seems to be a know issue for other Z owners after reading this tread.

j.arnaldo 11-05-2009 01:01 PM

No use in getting new struts, Vipor; they all turned out bad (at least the OEMs). I was just saying that my hatch door doesn't stick, rather it's easy to open, but it won't stay up. Thanks anyway!

vipor 11-05-2009 01:05 PM

Not staying up is a strut problem. Not clearing the latch when "popping" the hatch is the spring issue.

tooohip 11-05-2009 03:30 PM

Just took me 7 tries to open mine...

To the dealer I go...oh huhh..oh hoh!

I haven't been this ticked off in a while. Took my Z into the dealership (the parts guy had ordered and received the longer lift springs). The service dept wouldn't do anything until they contacted Nissan North America (I had already opened a case with them) but the North America rep said they would not pay the dealer until a Bulletin is issued. It could be several years before a TSB is sent out...caught in the middle. huh? Here is my assessment...the Sport Pkg adds the read spoiler which adds about 9 or 10 lbs to the hatch. Nissan's engineers did not change the lift springs to a stronger spring. I'm no engineer but know that if you add that much weight to the end of the lever (the hatch) you are going to have more pressure to lift. Maybe their engineers have never considered this...? My guess is the hatch lifts will show increased wear too, due to the increased weight causing premature failure. I'm no genius but apparently the Nissan engineers aren't either. The 370 is a brand new vehicle. Why won't Nissan listen? Your guess is as good as mine.

odd :icon14: i called the 1 800 number in the first post and did a file of concern and roughly two weeks later had the longer springlifts on the z...

from reading your post you say you did a file of concern correct?

if not i would call the number in the first post and start that way...

vipor 11-06-2009 10:18 AM

I have a Nismo. Largest, heaviest "stock" spoiler around. You need to BBB that dealership and find a new one. Check my previous posts, get the part numbers, print out the invoice that I took a photo of, go in and raise some hell.

all the images are in my galleries down there \/

Jack370Z 11-06-2009 02:33 PM

Nissan NA had info on file on my case...the dealer said they added the info from my contact with them to the file with Nissan NA. Oh, I had the print outs of the pictures and the work order in Texas. I offered them to the service department and the Mgr didn't seem interested and didn't even look at them. The service advisor brought out a technican...he looked at the hatch and, honest to God, asked me if I installed the wing. No kidding...he had no idea it was part of the Sport Pkg...scary, huh? Actually I've been to three dealers in the area including the one I bought the Z from. I'm pretty pissed. I'm pretty much ready to wash my hands of all of them. I have a friend that is a tech at one of the dealers who has been working on my Z's for the last 10 years...I might recruit him to do what work I need done and just leave the dealerships alone.

you dont have to give up...

call nissan na back they should have gave you an ext number for the person handling your file...let that person know that anyone or all of those dealers were unwilling to help...things should shift in your favor shortly there after...

Jack370Z 11-06-2009 02:45 PM

I have called Nissan back and left a message for the rep assigned to my case. She did follow up within 24 hours of my initial call. Seemed truly interested but when she asked "what can I do to help resolve this for you?". I said just send me the springs and I'll install them (it's about a 3 sec fix). She said we don't have parts...I said have them mailed from a local dealer. She just said they can't do that. I'm not giving up just a little frustrated at the moment.

theres the issue...

ask them to tell one of the dealers to order the parts...it took my service manager less than 30 seconds to swap them out and i didnt even have to pull it in a bay...

Pharmacist 11-06-2009 03:25 PM

I tried the 2 penny trick (putting two pennies in the pastic housing of each spring) and so far it works fine. I read somewhere that the 350z springs are longer and stronger than ours and also fit in place of the stock springs. If that's true, then an easy fix would be just pulling the springs from a wrecked 350 in some junkyard and putting it on, until that tsb comes out.

Demon Z 11-06-2009 10:54 PM

Just got my new springs installed yesterday...problem is definitely fixed...hatch is now, um, anxious to open. ;)

j.arnaldo 11-07-2009 07:31 AM

Right, dude. Different but related issues, 'cause they involve the hatch door. Nissan's bugs are at it again!

Zeto 11-07-2009 08:41 AM

If I buy the part myself, is it hard to install?

vipor 11-07-2009 12:22 PM

all you have to do is rotate it while pushing in. think pill jar

Trips 11-07-2009 12:30 PM

Jack370Z 11-07-2009 03:45 PM

Not a problem to install at all. Simple quarter turn and it's out. I took one out and showed the service mgr how simple it was. If they charge Nissan anything to change them out they are robbing them.

vipor 11-07-2009 04:45 PM

half hour minimum i'm sure, but like you said, it's retarded easy
