I recently went a visited a dealer (not the one I got my car from) about this issue. I spoke with someone and explained the situation and showed her a printout showing the new part number and part compared to the stock part. They seemed willing to help and had to bring the car into the shop to have a tech look at it. The tech agreed that it was an issue and we discussed what could the done. Talking to a guy at the parts desk I found that the replacement part shown in the post has actually been replaced as well, although I am unsure what was changed. Now the fun part... evidently noone I was dealing with knew about the Nismo Z and they started giving me a hard time about my "aftermarket" spoiler. I told them it was a Nismo spoiler and they immediately changed tune stating "yeah, it's a Nismo part, but it didn't come on the car." I sent the woman off to her manager and she returned less than a minute later understanding what I was trying to tell her. I now have an appointment next week some time to get the "springs" swapped out along with a nice well-needed hand washing. It took a little time and talking to the right people, but it looks like all will be well soon. Also, they came at me with the TSB for the 350Z stating that there wasntb one for the 370, but I kept pushing and they understood. Going in with all of the necessary information including part numbers definitely helped me get the dealer on my side, so when you go in, be prepared. Once I know the new-new part number I'll let you all know.

I picked up my replacement hatch springs today. Works perfectly now! I got them free under warranty. The service manager said there is an official bulletin coming out for the 370z soon for this issue so it was easy for him to get the part approved. (Australia)

nice  so the official bulletin, is a release for all of nissan or just in Australia? |
Well you can downgrade my hatch to near 100% failure now. With just a touch over 1200 miles (she's broken in!) my hatch fails to open almost all the time. When I bring it in for the first service I will get it resolved.
|
Update: i havent had any more problems other than the one time with the three pennies...
i will follow up with my Nissan Dealership this week to see if there has been a TSB released or when/if it will... |
On the phone right now! Going to dealer later. One of my springs(drivers side) is loose and nearly falls out on it's own as it is.
|
Initially I had about a 75% success rate when popping my hatch and thought little about it. About a month or so ago I was working on some projects around the house and it seemed more like 0%. It was hotter (than now) and was getting a lot more use. I'm at the dealer right now getting the springs replaced and I go to show the new service tech and it worked 2 out of 2 times, lol.

i hardly open the rear hatch so its not here nor there... but i want it fixed for the principle |
A Nissan dealer replaced my hatch springs yesterday, and they work almost too well, lol. I'll post pics and part numbers Friday when I have some free time (and am not at work.) They are at least an inch longer than the factory ones, and do a damned good job of popping the hatch. I actually think that once they are a little more broken in they will rest a smidge lower, but it's not too bad. I think 1/16 to 1/8" is all the gap is off by, it still lines up with the rear bumper pretty well.
The dealer handled this under warranty, even though I didn't purchase the car from them. They had to order the part, and do the replacement (I couldn't just pick up the parts.) I showed them the image of the new part, and they were aware of the 350Z TSB for the same issue. Hopefully everyone else will have good luck with this as well. Like I said, I'll be posting part numbers and images later. I may scan my invoice also so you guys can show the dealer you bring your cars to, it may help things along until there's an official TSB. |

I was told by the dealer that the part shown on the first page has been replaced as well. Not sure on the difference between v2 and v3.

This just started happening to me intermittently this week. Not the end of the world, but a little annoying.

I got mine covered under warranty as well at a different dealership than I got my car from. The parts are in (had a flaw in the steering wheel so they are replacing the air bag, etc) but I haven't booked a time yet to get them installed. |
OK it's getting worse now, happening pretty my every time I open my trunk and starting to really annoy me.
Guess I need to try the dealer again! Hopefully this time it will do it while I'm there and not make me look stupid like last time. Vipor, which DFW dealer did you use? |
I concur, I too will need to pay a friendly visit to my neighborhood nissan. Mine's just started doing this the first time I pop the trunk daily.
Lloydy, where about dallas are you at? Had I cross path with you before? I cross path with 3 Z, red, PG, and Silver I guess... Vipor: Please give us the info |
By the way, mine's only 700 miles and there are only few times I open up the trunk <50 times I'll say

Just stoped at Carmax where I got the best deal on my Z. An so far the best CS. They hook me up with package oil changes for 31.61 yes Ester oil. Hooked me up with a discounted Nismo S spoiler. Anyway told them about the hatch not opening after using the new springs for the nismo spoiler. They looked at it for maybe ten Mins tops. Said no problem we've ordered the parts needed top fix, it should be in by next Friday.

I purchased my car from Jerry's Weatherford, and I highly recommend them. I had my service done at Texas Nissan in Grapevine, and they were helpful in that respect. (The salesperson and his manager I spoke with about purchasing a car dissuaded me from buying the car there.)
Read my above posts for the story, here's some pictures. There are pics in my album of the car with the hatch open and closed to show how well the new springs work. The newest part number for these springs is 84415-CD71A, not to be confused with the 84415-CD715 from before. I'm unsure what the difference between the 2 is. Vipor thanks for the invoice, I will be taking that in to show my dealer too. |
I didn't have any problems with my hatch but then again I was not in and out of the hatch often. Then recently I've noticed that sometimes I'll hit the button to open the hatch and it will not pop open and I have to press the release button again and then it opens.

I just emailed my Nissan service and parts department manager in Maryland. He said that he can find no TSB issued to this problem. He also stated, "we can only replace the springs if we can identify a problem with them". I intend to bring my vehicle in when I reach 3750 miles for the oil change and then show them the hatch spring problem.

i have been using this pry bar, works well.lol

its cool pry bars and aluminum go well together :p

I think I fixed this issue on my car. I took the springs out and just remounted them a week ago, and my hatch has been popping up just fine ever since. It's like a subtle change in position was all that was needed or something.
