It's a brand new car there shouldn't be a problem opening your hatch it's not the end of the world the dealer will have to look at it and see what they can do. hopefully it's not going to cost me will update.
Mine is the same.

I haven't been this ticked off in a while. Took my Z into the dealership (the parts guy had ordered and received the longer lift springs). The service dept wouldn't do anything until they contacted Nissan North America (I had already opened a case with them) but the North America rep said they would not pay the dealer until a Bulletin is issued. It could be several years before a TSB is sent out...caught in the middle. huh? Here is my assessment...the Sport Pkg adds the read spoiler which adds about 9 or 10 lbs to the hatch. Nissan's engineers did not change the lift springs to a stronger spring. I'm no engineer but know that if you add that much weight to the end of the lever (the hatch) you are going to have more pressure to lift. Maybe their engineers have never considered this...? My guess is the hatch lifts will show increased wear too, due to the increased weight causing premature failure. I'm no genius but apparently the Nissan engineers aren't either. The 370 is a brand new vehicle. Why won't Nissan listen? Your guess is as good as mine.

odd i called the 1 800 number in the first post and did a file of concern and roughly two weeks later had the longer springlifts on the z...

from reading your post you say you did a file of concern correct?

if not i would call the number in the first post and start that way...

Default Spring Lift Problem With Early Build Models

Bought my Z in the last day of September 09. It has the longer spring lifts. So Nissan had to know this lift situation was a problem.....otherwise they would not have changed them for models built later in the production year.

possibly could have been done by the dealer too...they may have had problems while showing it to potential buyers and went ahead and ordered the longer springs and replaced them...

Could have but don't think so. If only dealers were that good! I live in OKC ..... the car came from a dealer in Lubbock, TX with 20 miles on the odometer. Also, I've never seen a dealer be that good about replacing defective parts on new cars. I also just bought a new SUV for the wife. It had deep scratches in 2 of the bright chrome finished wheels. They acted like they did not know about the damage although the car had been detailed before delivery. However, they did replace the wheels....I had not filled out the dealer evaluation survey so this helped.

BTW.........temp today is 13 degrees. My hatch opens perfectly.

No problems here. The wife uses the hatch all the time and she reports no issues.

Anything is possible remember the issues with the dealer installing the wrong type of wheel locks and the subsequent problems. never rule out the human factor.

I would say mine sticks about 90% of the time. Sometimes it is so bad that it takes 3 or 4 pushes before it will open. It's embarassing!

So I went from two pennies on each side to three... I'll give it a day or so to see if that fixes it permantly...

still waiting to see how Nissan handles this issue, but in the meantime 6 cents is cheaper than $64.00!

Thanks to kdo2milger. Just did the 3 penny thing with mine. I guess I'm a little slow but to me pictures sometimes help. Since a quick search here (pennies + hatch) didn't yield any pictures, I went over to that "other" forum and with the same search, voila, pictures (http://my350z.com/forum/1191909-post40.html). Once I looked at them, I gave myself a great big "Duh!". LOL. It took me longer to find the pictures than to put the pennies in place. Now let's see if it's a total "fix".
