I had a scheduled oil change so I called ahead hoping they'd order the parts so they could do both (since the hatch hasn't opened properly even once for several months). I didn't expect they would. And they wouldn't. Oh well.
When my wife brought it in they were unfamiliar with the issue. When shown the TSB the desk guy became condescending and patiently explained to her that these were only for cars having issues. That pissed her off. You don't want to piss her off. Long story short, he put his tail between his legs and ordered the parts. Now we wait . . . |
Lol nice. Props to the wife for doing what had to be done

you know this happens to me sometimes.. I have to press the button like 2 or 3 times for it to completely open.. lately has not done it.. its weird.
|
I took the suggestion someone else posted and started taking videos with my phone of the sticking so if it happened to not stick when at the dealers I would have proof that it does stick.
I went by the dealer and sure enough it opened right up with one push of the button. However, the dealer didn't even question it and just ordered the replacement. Will have it in this week for the installation. |

Just got the springs changed, seems to work fine at the moment but will keep an eye on it... the technican had difficultly getting the springs off at the start ><
|
went to the garage. nissan hasn't issued the spring replacement in belgium yet. but they lowered the part where the hatch latches unto so that it is a tighter fit meaning the springs fly open harder causing the hatch to open up without any problems
|
I got this done today at the dealer and now I can hear some more road noise and there is a noticeable gap between the hatch and the body.
Is there a way to adjust the new springs? I might just go back to the original springs and pop the hatch twice. lol |
Give it a little time, they will probably settle at least a little. Haven't heard of anyone else having more noise after the swap
|
yeah i haven't noticed a noise change either... man you must have got uber srpings...
what i'd be worried about is water leaking in if the gap is large enough... |
got mine changed yesterday, so glad! i couldn't take it anymore
|
My car just started doing this every once and while. It is very annoying. Guess I'm gonna have to take it in and hope they fix it.
|
UPDATE: Got my new springs the other day and now the hatch pops up like a charm. To me the new springs didn't look much different than the old ones, other than being stiffer. Other than that, they were the same length.

I got mine replaced this week. All I did was talk to the maintenance manager about the problem. I then asked for an email so I could send the tech bulletin from Nissan that was linked here. She did some researched and called me 2 days later to tell me that the part was being ordered.
Huge difference since it was changed. Thank you to everyone that posted the link. |
My Z does not have the spoiler and have no problem with the hatch opening. I am wondering out loud if it is the weight of the spoiler that necessitates the heavier duty springs.
|
I have this issue :(

I have the new springs but they have started to fail again after a few months of use.
Today I put 2 x 10c pieces (Aussie) in each spring under the rubber cap and so far it works flawlessly. Just my 40c worth... ;) |

mine is getting stuck again after getting the springs were changed =(
bah... |
yah, im using pennies in mine. works great. :p
after removing the springs (just turn it cw or ccw and pull down gently) pull down the boot (use a pick tool or small flat head screw driver) around the top of the boot where it's snapped on. add 2 pennies. snap back boot and re-install. takes no more than 3min per side. |
Dealer put mine in the other day, they work great, no more two button openings.
|
Yeah, mine has the issue on and off, however, whenever I take it to the dealership, it works flawlessly!!
|
Mine gets stuck every time. I have to push the hatch release once to get the latch to release then push it again to open the hatch. If I want it to open on the first time I have to have both hands one to push the button and one to pull on the trunk so it fully releases.

I'm cracking up right now. I took mine in to have the springs replaced a few weeks ago and never looked at the "bill". They gave me a bill that showed the price for the work and a "0" balance. They actually had $18.60 for labor. :bowrofl: Wish I could make that kind of money for two minutes of work.
|
Mine got stuck for the first time in a while. I noticed that when I had that trunk cover it would get stuck more often and at the most I counted took 14 tries to open it.
|
Of course got the same problem, but Nissan Europe/Germany doesent want to replace.:mad:
|
I also have the same problem, but Nissan/Sweden says that the TSB only applies in the USA!!? They know how difficult it is to sue them here in Europe and therefore they pretend the problem does not exist, to save money.
I will personally go and see them with the car today and instead tell them to do whatever they think it takes to get the hatch to work normally. The car is under warranty and this obligation is still mandatory in Europe. They may not change out any parts, at first, but I will keep on complaining until I am satisfied. I will update the forum on what gets done at my European end. |
Do you have a higher up agency you can contact in Europe that might be able to over rule a dealership? Presenting them with the facts that the US market has this issue and you can prove you have it.
|
its such a cheap fix too, I dont know why they are complainging about it. Well if they wont fix it then you can do the penny thing and that will fix it too.
|
Thanks for the reply's. There is a "higher up agency" for consumer complaints, but that is my last resort. Also, any ruling by them takes forever. I will proceed to the "penny trick" if all else fails, but I first want to see what they intend to do about the problem (without changing parts as per the TSB) later today during my visit, to honour the warrany. Will keep you all updated.
|
wow, were i am from (ontario, canada) i just went into the dealer, in fact without the car, told them i had the problem and they said they would order it in for me. I brought the car in a week later, they came out to the parking lot and put the two new ones in and I was done in 10 minutes. No questions asked, no one even took a look at it. Good luck to you getting yours fixed, i hope they wise up!
|
There's a TSB out now. The process should be similar to yours from now on.
|
I just got back from the dealer here in Sweden and the problem is hopefully about to be solved. I simply had them try to open the hatch which made them acknowledge there was a problem. I then proceeded together with the maintenance manager to his office computer. He logged on to Nissan Europe Spare Parts and noticed that the parts number had been updated to 84415-1EA1E. There was still no TSB issued in his system but new parts have now been ordered and are covered by the warranty. So now I must only wait. Thanks to all.
