Cool, thanks for letting me know. It's nice to hear that they are already on top of it in Canada, it's not always the case. Please let me know how your expereince goes.

I will be putting my car back on the road at the end of the month and will get the service done then. I usually go to Unionville Nissan. It's not close to me, but the service is outstanding.

This is GOOD NEWS!!!.

Thank you to whoever found this first

Japanjay 03-13-2013 06:15 PM

My car is going in this sunday. Already scheduled since they had the part on the shelf.

ZForce 03-14-2013 04:50 PM

A day late and a dollar short for me. Had mine replaced after towed about a week in a half ago. Shelled out $50 towards my extended warranty deductible. Hopefully will get reimbursed for it. Now for car #2, also 2009, hopefully will get this replaced before it fails.

Ordered bypass harness from third party vendor here. So no cutting of wire here or fuse pulling. Calling dealer today with campain number.

Oh and car #1 was replaced with the latest rev part D. There is no rev part # E, that was probably for the GTR.

ZForce 03-14-2013 08:25 PM

Update: just got off the phone with dealer and they are ordering the part for car#2 and on car #1 (slu already replaced) they will be refunding me my $50 deductible on my extended warranty.

Rickface 03-15-2013 12:14 AM

ok, so mine went out on monday 03/11/2013, towed it to the dealer, then found out about the recall, they fixed it. but now everytime i engage or disengage the steering lock, the buzzing sound is a bit louder.

tried to take off the fuse, 10A labeled steering lock, and car wont start without it. is this because of what nissan replaced? anyone tried removing the fuse after recall service??

03g35coupe6mt 03-15-2013 12:31 PM

did you push the button and get it to unlock first? (acc or On )

Rickface 03-15-2013 01:56 PM

Oops missed that step. Thanks 03g35coupe6mt

Ok all is good now :)

Baer383 03-15-2013 06:22 PM

Good, maybe everyone can stop making these God Dam steering lock threads

sfearl1 03-16-2013 03:20 PM

Lou, will you hold one for me? ;)

zefaulter 03-16-2013 03:52 PM

I went for my appointment today. They take my keys and tell me it will take two hours. I go home and receive a call an hour later telling me they don't have the part in stock... Going back in Wednesday hmmmm...

Just got my notification from my dealership. It was just a postcard telling me to come in for recall # P3208...no letter, nothing explaining what it was. Called them today and they said the part was in stock. Anyone know if Nissan would cover any rental cost seeing as how I'd have to leave the car there on a weekday?

Many dealerships have free loaner cars now for warranty work, I would call of the dealership and ask before going in.
If not, many times insurance will cover the cost for a few days. Mine will pay out 30 days a year for rental car if my car goes into the shop as part of my insurance with no extra cost to me.

DavidInIndy 03-18-2013 12:49 PM

I've got an 8 am appt this coming Friday. Have no idea which part they're installing but I'm sure all the dealerships are on the same page (knock on wood) and that it will be the "D" part.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

I read on this thread that D had issues as well...

Can you tell us where you saw this information on RevD. I searched and could not locate anything.

I found many threads regarding RevA and RevB (which was the version I had as well), but nothing on RevD.

I too got the RevD recently due to the recall. FWIW, I was told at my dealership, they admitted they replaced many RevA and RevB, but have yet to replace any with RevD.

Fault occurred to my 2009 370z yesterday, currently at Nissan dealer - I have logged a case with Nissan UK to see if they will honour the recall Nissan USA are currently doing- will keep you posted

Good Luck! Hope they fix it for you.

nightine 03-19-2013 12:09 PM

At the moment they are saying they will cover the cost of the part, impressed with their fast response to the issue, the car is still at the dealers waiting to be diagnosed however I'm 99.9% sure it is this issue as what's was happening is as exactly as everyone else has described.

Good to hear. Fix and then pull fuse or order the bypass cable and be done with it forever! :)

Took my '10 roadster in for service - my service guy (who's really great) said "there's a recall about to come out to replace your steering lock. There have been some problems. Let's go ahead and replace yours." I've been reading about the problems here but haven't experienced any myself - but no time like the present so they swapped it out. He said there's also an extended warranty on the recall/replacement part.

Good call to just go ahead with the replacement. By the time you experience problems, it will be too late.

Wow. I never thiught this day would come.

Should I put the fuse back first? Or just forget about the whole thing?

If you don't mind the hassle, put the fuse back in, have dealer replace the ESCL and then pull the fuse again. Forget about it if you don't want the hassle.

I have a Rev D and my car is not part of the recall. But I know of several forum members who had their ESCL fail once, got it replaced with Rev D and then had it fail yet again :ugh2: I'm not risking it; my fuse was pulled months ago...

I would love to take mine in with the fuse pulled, just to see how they would react, but no telling how that might complicate things. I'll be putting my fuse back in before going to the dealer.

I'll be getting the new ESCL (SLU) and then pulling the fuse again. I figure it might be worth a few bucks when I go to sell the Z if I can tell the potential buyer that it has the latest and greatest ESCL revision. Can't hurt. ;)

This just in!! Latest ESCL for the 370Z!! Don't miss an opportunity to drive around in style with one of these installed on your 370Z!!

Disclaimer: will fail eventually and does not allow you to drive anywhere.

:iagree:

that's my plan! I'm on hold with the dealer right now to get the part.

I'm glad Nissan is finally dealing with this!

Highway 03-20-2013 06:45 PM

Just dropped mine off to be fixed in the morning. Now I won't be scared whenever I am more than 5 miles away from my house.

Good point. It's like replacing an old time bomb with a new one which set the timer little bit back in the future...:shakes head:

We haven't read much faulty on RevDs just because it's the newest and haven't had enough time to prove them good or bad. But I am sure I already read somewhere the RevD failed too. And please think... There must be a reason for Nissan giving up using the SLU on the newest models!

While it's good to have this recall, maybe we should have a new poll for people encountered SLU failure AFTER replacing with the new unit.

The part is in stock.. I'll be replacing tomorrow (then pulling fuse again lol). I'm mainly doing this for resale in case I need to revert to "stock" someday. Also as punishment to Nissan for using such a crappy part and taking so darned long on a recall.

Just got my Steering lock recall a couple days ago,,

These post speak to what I was thinking.
It is a hassle. Then I pull the fuse again. How am I ahead?
Bragging rights, it is free and might be worth more (do not really care about either).
Make Nissan pay.

I am still deciding what to do. Currently all is well with pulled fuse.

Cmike2780 03-21-2013 10:08 AM

Dropped the car off this morning. They just called me back a few minutes ago to tell me the tech is working on it as we speak. 39k miles on the odometer and they also highly recommend a coolant flush, brake flush and a new cabin air filter which is supposedly really, really dirty......in my '09 Z......which I'm pretty sure didn't come with one :icon14:

They also saw my new tires and recommended an alignment. I can understand if they were the ones to install it, but how the f*** can you tell a car needs an alignment with brand new tires installed? They didn't even drive it as far as I know and it's not pulling left or right.

He almost had me until he said new cabin filter....sneaky bastards. Is wanting not getting scammed into unneccessary work when you come in for a recall too much to ask?

'09s did not come with a cabin air filter. There is a slot in the air handler for one, but the factory didn't install them. I had one installed in my '09 (lots of pollen this time of year).
