Any link yet? I'd like to have something to show the dealership in case they give me crap or don't know anything about it yet.

I'm in that group, me and Klein get drunk all the time.
My car is kind of slow but I planned on hitting up a Z meet and seeing who's fast.

you like a car and stick around to see people mods, yet you wouldn't get one because of a silly steering wheel lock issue.

whatever dude:tup:

That wasn't the only reason, the main reason I didn't get a Z was because my local Nissan dealers wouldn't budge on the Nismo I wanted so I went to ford and got 6K off a new 5.0 instead.

tturbo370z 03-12-2013 03:25 PM

I was considering taking my car in for this but I'm not sure it's worth it. Better off removing fuse or cutting wire. Do they have to re flash your ecu? If they do wouldn't you lose your custome tune you need to keep your car running properly while boosted? I'm not gonna risk taking that chance, I was just curious if anyone knows the answer. I'm scared to take my car to the dealer for anything period because I don't want my tune trashed.

Bking 03-12-2013 03:28 PM

Anyone in Canada has any info on this yet?

I meant to the actual TSB sheet. It usually has everything on the recall including the steps that dictate how the dealer finds the problem and steps to fix it. I just don't want to go in saying "I saw it on the internet."

That's a helluva good deal, I was trying to buy a used Nismo locally for 35K and they wouldn't do it. I was pissed because I was dead set on buying a Nismo 370, I had my wheels/exhaust/parts picked out and everything.

They advised the new Steering Lock Unit is in stock and I have scheduled an appointment for Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 2pm.

Would like to thank everyone for their valuable input. Keeping fingers crossed the Unit is RevD which is the good one. I currently have RevB.

Will let all know after install.

Went into the dealership this afternoon as planned. Steering Lock SLU was replaced with RevD.

To my knowledge, I have not seen on this website a failure with this version. Only RevA and RevB.

Why not do both? I plan on putting my fuse back in, getting the new SLU (ESCL in Nissanese), and taking the fuse back out.

As far as I can tell, all they are doing is replacing the lock with the latest revision and not reprogramming anything. If they do reflash anything, it will be the BCM. No reason to do anything to the ECM.
But I haven't seen anything official on how they are doing the fix. Still no reason I can think of to do anything to the ECM as the ESCL is not connected to it.

Ah.

Going by what others have said about getting the recall work done, all they're doing is replacing the ESCL (SLU) with the latest revision (D).

I don't believe there is any troubleshooting involved (other than determining that you don't already have the latest revision). If you have an ESCL on a pre-2011 370Z, you get a new one.

You should be able to contact the dealer with the number in the OP and they can look it up. If they give you any static, go to another dealer.

YMMV

Note my earlier post of page 4 of this thread. I just called my dealership supplied the campaign information. They were aware of it and knew exactly what to do. That was yesterday and today they installed the replacement RevD SLU. I have not seen any failure notice with this version on this forum.

Now that it has been confirmed that this is a half assed recall, I know I will have no need to bring my car into the dealer for it. Also btw, from what I remember not one revision is safe, they have all been known to fail.

EDIT: Also, RevD isn't even the latest one. Isn't there a RevE out even?

SPOHN 03-12-2013 06:02 PM

I just wish they could reprogram the ECU so I can just flat out delete it

saber 03-12-2013 06:02 PM

^ who cares what revision it is, the design is inherently prone to failure. the fuse on my car is staying right where it has been for months now...at the bottom of my center console.

Interesting news

I stopped by my Nissan dealership today for some regular maintainence, and just last week my steering wheel lock went out, it was about $1350 but I have another thread with the details. Anyways my sales rep told me Hey good news Nissan approved the RECALL and you should be getting a full reimbursement :happydance: I don't know about you but I'm pumped! I haven't officially gotten word from corporate but ill keep you guys posted

homeryansta 03-12-2013 07:32 PM

wow! great news! All the guys who took out their fuse should put em back in.

Uhhh....no thank you. I'll stay clear of the dealer putting in another known faulty SLU that will end up leaving me stranded sooner or later. Disabled SLU is a reliable SLU. REV A,B,C,D,E,F,G,Ab, Ac, or w/e the hell they all have out is not a reliable SLU.

Tick64 03-12-2013 09:15 PM

Sorry if this has been covered in another thread somewhere, I swear I searched for it, but how do we know exactly which steering lock revision we have in our cars? Is it printed somewhere that is fairly easy to access? My car was built in Jan/2011...
