Sadly I don't believe Nissan holds 370Z owners with the same regard as GT-R owners. A better company would.
|
Just had the column lock failure last Thursday @ 17,500 miles. Rev C. It best be covered under warranty.
I saw in a few posts up that a rev E failed. Does anyone know if Nissan actually fixed the problem or a just replacing the part & it could happen again? GM did something like this on the C-5 vettes. They even had a recall, but it only solved the column lock problem on the auto, not the manual. I'm thinking that the bypass harness I saw in another thread may be worthwhile still. |

Nissan obviously knows about the problem because they removed the Steering Lock module from the 2012 and newer models completely. |
Welcome me to the club of having my car not start because of that damn steering wheel lock. Luckly, my wheel isn't locked. I bought my 2009 used from the dealership with 28,820 miles on it. I haven't even owned it for a year yet.
Also, my car is beeping 3 times after I lock the car with the remote. I hope my battery does not die :( This blows! :( |
Does anyone have a copy of the GTR recall or a TSB? I'd like to take a look at it.
Has anyone had the column lock mechanism fail again after getting it fixed? |
Hope this isn't a stupid question. I am often parallel parked on the street when I visit my girlfriend. If I had this issue, how could I get my car towed? Mine is a stick so I could put it in neutral, but if the steering is locked how can you get it out of the parking spot? I've seen people towed when parked illegally and they just kind of drag the car out into the street. Hate to think of that happening to my car. Besides, it is so low I don't think they could get the lift under it.
|
Yes I have seen them drag cars out, it seems to be the standard procedure for parking violations, they don't care because you parked in the wrong spot and it's the owners fault.
However I have had my car moved in a parking lot at work because they needed to do some emergency repairs and my car was in the way. I was totally weired out because the car wasn't were I left it and I asked how the heck did they move it when it was in gear and had the parking brake engaged (it was a fwd car). They showed me the rollers they have to move peoples cars if they need to. They just lift up the car up a few inches place rollers under the wheels and slowly move it. |

Either method is good. Kit was better for me. I didnt feel like mine would fail as the 09's are severely affected by this. Worth the money for peace of mind! |
add my car to the list 2009 370z sports package,, its sitting on my drive way with the intelligent key light on and my windows down... I am unable to roll them up. Im under 36k but it was purchased 9/25/09.... So im under the mileage warranty but over the 3 years by a month!! I better be under warranty!! Im towing it to the dealer in a few hours.

thanks bro. (UPDATE). I'm sad to inform that the dealer is not helping me out. I disputed that this problem was recalled on the GTR and the number of cases regarding the 09 and 10 370z keep rising, but they just gave me the finger and are asking for 1300 to fix it. I called nissan customer relations and filed a case and today I got a nice phone call also giving me the finger saying I'm on my own. I have no choice but to get it fixed, but I feel like this is some BS. My car is getting fixed and should be done friday. |

P.s they also said they can't understand why nissan still not recall this issues on our z and altima. But they believe a lot of customer already files the case of steering lock. They believe soon or later this will be recall for the z too. That's what I heard from my service adviser at mossy Nissan. (Houston, Texas on I-10/Katy fwy) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Found this forum when researching a similar problem with my car - a 2011 Infiniti G37xS AT with 19,130 miles. Tow truck just dropped her off at the dealer. I pointed them in the direction of the steering lock (thanks, guys). Will report back on what they come up with.
RevzTo9K '11 G '07 Z More details if you're interested: Pulled into my driveway, pushed the button, engine shut off. Yellow KEY light on solid. Doors would not unlock using switches or FOB (I had to manually flip the door lock to get out). NAV display and Bluetooth stayed on. Brake very hard to push. No start, no ACC, no nothing. Exterior trunk release button would not work. Interior trunk release button worked fine. |

I called Fremont Nissan and told them about my other coverage. They said they cannot honor it because of their "policy". I got so angry and cussed them out. I called Dublin Nissan back and they said they can do everything for just the cost of my deductible ($50). I had my car towed there and it took an extra three days for it to be totally fixed. I'm very happy to have only paid $50, but I was almost ready to pay Fremont Nissan $1300 to repair my car. |
ahhhhhh had a key warning light on yesterday, now today i cant start my car, my convertible top is down and my car is stuck in my drive way. Call nissan and they told me to tow my car to the dealer, but my car is dropped and the tow truck couldnt tow me from my drive way...... stuck like chuck

This issue just came up with my 40th yesterday, luckily im still under warranty, however I installed a Gen 3 intake. Realizing this has nothing to do with the problem and uncertain what voids our warranty. Should I reinstall my stock intake to be safe? Anyone with experience? Hoping to take my car to the dealer tomorrow.

Ok, just had this happen with my '10 model with a C revision code. I whacked it with a hammer and I was able to turn it on.
Question, should I pull the fuse to disable it? Or should I go ahead and have it replaced with a newer version? |
Ok my Z died today Intelligent Key warning came on and Security indicator light is blinking changed the battery on my key Nothing happened couldn"t start my car streeing wheel can turn wasn't locked. Help??? Out a warranty.
|
Update on my scenario. Intelligent Key light is still on, but went to start my car today and had no issues. Still took it to the dealer to get it checked out. Hopefully I will know more today. I'll keep everyone posted.

intelligent key system warning light - resolution
Hey guys,
I recently had a bad experience with my 370Z and I'll like to share with you all. Went to my garage and pressed the start button but nothing happend. The "Vehicle information display" was displaying "intelligent key system warning light". The start button, wen pressed, went from ACC to ON but with no engine response, complete dead. Troubleshooting: 1- check on the voltmeter for the battery voltage. (between 12 a 14 volts) 2- check the battery from your key (the 370z come with a "low battery warning light" that should let you know when to replace your battery key. This sigh will be displayed at the vehicle information display") Ps: the doors should be opening and close locking and unlocking, headlight plus all lights internal and external should be just fine. Resolution: 1- tow truck needs to be called. :shakes head: 2- take to the Nissan dealer. 3- the problem it'll be: * Lock Steering 48700-JF00D $ 689.89 * Bolt 48703-06F04 $ 2.88 * Overnight freight $ 63 (be careful, don't let then full you. Tell then you will not pay any freight. In my case I have warranty so I pay just the deductible 50$) * Labor $ 297.99 * tow. $ 111 ( of course will depend on where you r located and where are you going). * Others (they described as: "subl grahams wrecker inv#411110 cn) $78 * misc. charges: 40.23 TOTAL: 1166.31 $ Well I got done at Nissan Bankston on the 4707 obj freeway Dallas. Ok guys let me know what you think or if you need any help since passed through this already!!! See you all later ..... Ricks. :tiphat: |
Same thing happened to me today. The car is sitting at the dealership and I will be calling Nissan tomorrow to see if they will do anything for me. I'm tired of all the car problems I have gotten with the Z. It's my first Z and first Nissan. They're not giving me any confidence in their brand an reliability.

Add me to the list. My GF drove it to work on a rainy Christmas Eve. Came out after work, no start.. nothing. She was telling me the symptoms, and I thought she was crazy, so I tossed the jump box in my car and headed to her work. No soap. The car sat at the Chrysler dealership where she works over Christmas. Took her to work this morning... tried the battery cable removal and the steering wheel bang trick to no avail. I can go back and tap the lock to see if it unlocks. The car has 46k miles, and I think she has the extended warranty, but I dunno. If not, I'll fix it and probably sell the car.
This car has been the worst vehicle I've ever owned. For a year it had leaky injectors. Nobody could figure it out even though I told them that it had classic "leaky injector syndrome." I learned about this syndrome when mid '80s RX7s would come into the shop flooded. I have a F350 with 340k miles. I have a VW Jetta TDI with 229k miles. Hell, I have a 430rwhp '94 RX7, and it's more reliable than this Z. A RX7 is more reliable?!? Funny thing is... we were talking a week ago about selling the RX7 and the Z and buying a GTR. I don't see that happening now. She wants a new Challanger RT8. This car is babied and perfectly maintained, but is falling apart around us. We don't even drive it hard. If we want to go fast, we take the RX7. I'll keep you guys informed. |
