lol Thanks. I have looked at the DIY and I finally got an English Speaking German on the line to tell me the issue (which I already know) and he went on to tell me that it's going to be 2300 Euro to fix and I told him that it's still under warranty and he said it works differently in Germany. I told him not to touch it until it actually clears that I won't pay anything. If not, then I'll just order the part myself and fix it with a friend of mine.

Good idea. If you know how to use a screwdriver, then you should be able to do this job by following the DIY.

Keep us posted with how you make out.

This is how I responded:

I am still dissatisfied with Nissan's reluctance to address the issue with REV A, B and C steering wheel lock failures in the 2009 and early 2010 370z. this exact same part was recalled in the GTR for failures and many people are currently experiencing problems with the part failing at great inconvenience to the consumer. On the forums online that I frequent every day there are new complaints about their steering wheel locks failing. I hope that Nissan decides to address this issue in the very near future.

I traded my 370z in on a Wrangler after that ********. My car had JUST ran out of warranty by about 2000 miles when this happened. I called Nissan and they wouldn't budge on it. I had to pay $1200 out of pocket just to have it still to a point where maybe it could happen again at any point, F that.

I've had two Altima's before that and my mother also drives an Altima, I told them I would never drive another Nissan again and they couldn't care less. I filled out that survey with great anger, lol.

Been waiting patiently for a month now and I am never taking it to Nissan in Germany ever again. I am now trying to contact someone in the states to get this part quickly and getting my car back. The excuse I keep hearing is that the emailing is not getting back to him...tired of this!

That's exactly the response I got when speaking with Nissan consumer affairs. I have owned 8 nissans including 5 Z's. I'll keep the two Z's I have because they are paid off, but, as of right now, I will not buy another Nissan ever again.

My car got towed to the dealer today. It's completely dead. No lights. Nothing. The key slot under the steering was on. (2 orange LEDs) and the starter button was on "on position" can't do anything. The horn is working. And step on break. Break lights come on. Other than that. Nothing. Can't start the car. No electrical power. = dead z:(

P.s tried the battery but it's 88% or 12.55 at autozone, advance auto parts and o'reilly. Is that symptoms of steering lock failure? Thanks in advance!!

You will have the "key" symbol lit up solid on the instrument cluster if it's the steering lock issue, and the car won't start...

SmallermouseZ 08-15-2012 07:01 PM

this goes for all older models from 2011?

U can't operate any function or feature of the car. It's sucks. Talked to the dealer. After they check or diagnose my car. They disassembly the steering lock and doing diagnose by Tom morning they will call me back. So he said most likely that's the problem and will cover by warranty. And I believe this is not the first Nissan car had same problem that's y they check the steering lock.

Got the problem. The dealer called and said the problem was "body control module" consider a brain of the car? Thats what i heard from him... and that's also the main caused of "steering lock" so if they going to replace it. Then my car won't have a problem of steering lock issue?

Huan'z 08-17-2012 06:58 PM

Huan'z 08-20-2012 08:41 AM

That would be the newest revision. Rev D was the last known revision prior to your information. Thanks for the info.

Huan'z 08-21-2012 08:26 AM

"d" that's the one equipped to my car that failed.

What year is your car? That's the first documented case on this forum of Rev D failing. Nissan was using Rev D as replacements for the GTR steering lock recall.

Huan'z 08-21-2012 09:32 AM

2010. I will take a picture and upload here the paper that saying mine was "rev D" that failed to respond. Then take a picture of new steering lock that they replaced. But will be later afternoon.

There's the replacement of the steering lock mechanism.

Sorry for the low quality. Just took it with my iPhone front camera.:)

Very disappointed Nissan isn't recalling for the 370Z, or at least increasing the warranty for this.

It looks like you have revision D. Ignore the Group of letters that for an "E", look at the JF00D, thats the version.

Add my 2011 to the list. Both my fobs (the one i've always used and the brand new unused one) lock and unlock my doors, but cannot start the car. The intelligent key warning light is on. Stuck in my driveway. The car is only 10 months old since purchased new.

dmhenderson 10-04-2012 10:18 PM

Put the fob inside the fobgina/fob receptacle and try again

Got a call from the dealer yesterday. I can pick up my car today. My steering lock did in fact fail. I guess not all 2011's are prone from this malfunction.

Do you know what revision the original steering lock was? Do you know what revision the new steering lock is?

Any update on if Nissan will warranty this?

i went into best buy today on my 2010 came out 5 minutes later and nothing. the wheel is unlocked so it can be turned freely but the key fob indicator light is on and neither of my keys work. i had to get the car towed into the dealership... the guy at the service department looked up the part replacement # on the GTR and said that the part was covered on that car but not on the Z.

what gives? has anyone tried calling Nissan?

GaleForce 10-13-2012 05:51 PM

If your car is within the warranty time frame and your vehicle suffers from a bad steering lock, then it should be replaced under warranty. Other members on this forum have had their faulty lock replaced under warranty.

The GTR's steering lock was replaced under a recall.

jeffd 10-13-2012 06:19 PM

sorry i didn't type that out as clearly as i should have

shouldn't the 370z be covered under the same recall as on the GTR? if its the same part #. my car is out of warranty and really not looking forward to the 1200$ tag i've seen quoted on here.
