Default Car Won't Start

Car wouldn't start today. Got a yellow blinking key symbol. The car battery and key fob are fine. I had to get it towed to the dealership. From research in this forum, it seems like it could be that steering lock issue. My car is a 2009 which seems to be the year with all the problems. I'll update when I hear what is wrong from the dealer. Not pleased.

I've tried removing the fuse for the steering lock and also clipping that brown wire and neither worked for me. I had to fork out $1100 for it...hopefully you don't

I hope you didn't forget that you had to be in accessory mode when you pull the fuse.

This. Doesn't fix anything once your steering lock goes out.

Was the steering lock issue fixed in 2011? or 2012?

The fix was they finally got rid of the whole damn thing in later 2011 models. The Rev C and Rev D versions they put in some 2010 and 2011 models are not recalled, yet there were failures noted on this forum for both Rev C and Rev D versions prior to Nissan even issuing the recall for Rev A and Rev B versions

About a month ago, I was having the same kind of issue. Replaced the fob battery without any changes. So, I brought it to the dealer and they could find nothing wrong either.

Over the next few days, I did some trial and error and it turned out to be the original key fob. The one that I always used was causing the no-start condition. When I broke out the secondary fob, the problem went away completely. In the Spring I will have to get a replacement and all should be good.

May not be the same as yours, but worth a try....

Got a call from nissan service department and it is the steering lock issue. They told me $1,100 repair. What a great Christmas present.

IIRC, all 2009 ESCLs are covered by a TSB.

Have you attempted to bang lose the lock and THEN pull the fuse? After I learned it would cost over a grand and tow fee to get it fixed, I spent 2 hours fist banging the crap out of the steering column and it finally released.

Yeah I would have them check for the TSB, I had mine done twice, once when it failed, then again with the recall, they reimbursed me for the one I paid for due to the recall. worth a double check.

Only Revision A & B ESCL units are covered in the recall. They switched to Rev C sometime in 2010 and Rev D for 2011 models I believe. Neither the Rev C nor Rev D units are covered under the recall. Even though numerous Rev C units and even a few Rev D models were reported by forum members as having failed long before the recall was issued. Fuck Nissan
