Default Dimming the rear fog light

The stock 25w 7440 bulb is way too bright to be left on all the time. I wanted mine to be more like the parking light brightness. The low watt side of a 7443 works nicely. The bulb needs to be modified but it's easy.

What kind of mods does the bulb need? There may be a bulb available that doesn't need any work. Also, adding a resistor may be a possibility.

Remove the outer contacts marked with the red arrow by wiggling them back and fourth until they break. Carefully bend the inner contacts marked with a green arrow to the outer position (where the outer contacts were). Inner contacts are 5.4 watts, the outer contacts are 25 watts like the 7440.... way too bright. I have not been able to find a 5-10 watt 16mm base wedge bulb so i adapted a 7443. It's possible that there are lower wattage LED's that would work.

What happens when you actually need your fog light? I guess safety for other drivers on the road in the fog is not a consideration for some.

Huh? I'm not sure i understand your point. Nissan didn't install one from the factory for the US cars. They obviously don't think we "need" one for the "safety" of other drivers.

Please keep me posted on where you source a good bulb. My dealer here in Germany cannot find one locally. I took out my bulb for the very same reason.

People use them here to some degree but for me if the fog is that bad I usually dont drive and will pull over until things improve. Better not to be out in dreadful fog to begin with.

My car is US model and did not come with the fog light to begin with. I added it because the black panel looked so bad. At least its gone for 2013.

This LED works great instead of the stock 7440 bulb.
