which one to buy? the Infiniti G vert or the 370Z vert?

As a G owner, I’d say it all depends on the person.
Honestly, I have not heard many ‘great’ reviews on the G Convertible.

Gorgeous car though, and I love the hardtop.

If you enjoy decent trunk space, need versatility, need the rear seats, need the luxury touch, would like something more ‘civilized’, will do the long trips, got a family, then the G is for you.
I’d think the ZR would be a good ‘weekend car’ to have some crazy fun in, look ‘kick-***’ cool, do mods and what not… I wouldn’t know much else b/c I do not own one.

The vibration and cacophony of screaming engine and growling exhaust inspires people who like sports cars and scares the crap out of people who cruise boulevards in convertibles. The barking from the Sync Rev is equally polarizing.

The wide fender flairs on the Z and the over-the-top Rays wheels also scream that this is a serious sports car. The Z is more cockpit-like. The suspension is tighter. The emphasis is on carving, not cruising. The trunk is also more usable in a Z. And surprise -- I actually prefer the cloth top and its "speedster" profile.

You should drive both and decide what you really want. The ZR is no bargain G37 vert. By the same token, the G37 vert is not a refined, softer ZR. I really do see them as very different cars that share the same lineage. I looked into a G37 before the Z was available and decided it wasn't for me.

I'm glad I waited. The Z is the perfect roadster and I love it more every time I drive it.

This was a very eloquent and well thought out response. I completely agree with your thoughts about the diferences between a roadster and a vert.. When I was doing my research I looked into the IS350c BMW 335, and G37 verts and found that the 370 roadster was the best bang for the buck, had the most trunk space with top down, and more horses under the hood than the IS and the 335. Another plus was the top, for me it looks great with the top up, the thing looks fast standing still but the other with their metal roofs which added more weight and just didn't look quite right especially the G37 but that just my opinion. What really put it over the top for me was when i drove it. You can feel the almost perfect weight distribution and how stiff the body is in corners. Nissan really did it right with this car, I'm not saying that there is not room for improvements but I lover my 370z roadster as it. I can honestly say this is the first car I have owned where I get in and drive not because I have somewhere to go but just to drive.

while i agree with everything else you said in your post, this comment stuck out to me because this is the first car i've driven that i've felt this phenomena that the car is turning around me as if i was the central point in the car...i've had other cars that had perfect 50/50, namely the RX-8 and it never felt like this, and it also didn't feel like this in my old 350Z...i don't know if the 370Z coupe has this same feeling (i would assume it does) while taking corners but it definitely gives you a sense of confidence and a greater range of control when taking a corner at high speeds

I am going to get a roadster and its dead sexy, but again thats MY opinion, are just coupe lovers who have never driven one and dont know how similar the coupe and roadster really are. ITS CALLED DENIAL, were not in the 80's anymore where roadsters were unstable and the coupes were just different cars. Start living with it coupe lovers, the roadster is just as good as your coupe.

Man, I swear to the good Lord. If you like convertibles, then thats simply what you like. Opinions are definitely like a-holes, we all have one. But I can't help but think that when I see a dude (young dudes) in a convertible, he borrowed his girls car. That being said, this is my opinion and I understand that it doesn't make it right just because its mine. And this is a serious response. It's your money, buy what you like.

Glad you clarified your opinion ref, "young dudes" -- us "old dudes" not only like our Roadsters, but in my case I wouldn't even think of allowing my girlfriend OR my wife to drive it:

actually he couldn't be any more correct, a sedan by definition is an automobile with 2 rows of seating and that's exactly what a G37 vert is - a convertible 2 door sedan

Funny. My wife and I were just talking about this! She keeps calling my z a vert when it is in fact a roadster! Huge difference (for those that have had both). Yes I did own a g37 vert for about 6 mo. It was my wife's car then she traded it in for a Benz. So, I agree, g is for her, z is for him!

Exactly. The G is civilized but I don't think its really cross shopped with the ZR. Lexus yes.

The G is *very* heavy, longer, has more interior space, mechanical HT...its a top down grand touring platform. I would take one over a Lexus, but that is my personal opinions.

Roadsters as defined, are of the 2 seat top down ilk. Historically roadsters lacked a permanent top. I was not born in the era where some 2 seaters had removable tops and such (Jag, MG, others I suspect).

Modern definition is a bit more relaxed, but its the Miata/MX-5,ZR, Solstice, Boxster (arguably) etc...the ZR to me is porky but I come from the land of 2100 lb roadsters so I like lightness.

Comments about a cars gender demographics and/or the drivers sexual preference may make you feel special inside but they lack intelligence and sometimes expose latent insecurities.

I've heard it all. I drove a yellow MX-5 for 13 years. Still miss that car. If you love to drive, you really should own a well sorted miata at some point in your life. I'm not a chick. I'm not a hair dresser. I don't like dudes (in that way). Just a DINKWAD with an engineering degree that can find the goodness in any sporting vehicle cause its fun. Regardless of who you are or what you do, if you like driving and are driving a fun car that's all that matters to a car nut.
