Default I'm I getting screwed???

So my frustration in trying to get this car continues. Long story short they found me the car I want in oregon and I live in Nevada. So now they want to tack on a 750 dollar shipping fee. So he tells me my out the door price will be 39085. This is for a yellow touring with sport package manual tranny with illuminated kicks and floor mats. Basically the price should be more like 38315 but because of the shipping its more. I'm using the VPP program which has me getting the car at roughly 700 under invoice (35098). Thing is that he states that the out the door price does not include registration. He says it's a nevada thing.

Now I'm originally from Ca. and there when they say out the door they mean out the door. I'm just trying to double check that here in Nevada that out the door does not mean registration. My problem is that I really wasn't planning on paying for shipping which is now cutting into my down payment. Now I'm going to have to pay registration on top of it which I can only imagine will be 500-700, which again decreases my down payment. So rather than going in with a 8300 down I'm going to be going in with a 6800-7000 dollar down. Just seems like I keep getting nickled and dimed here. They say there is nothing they can do about the shipping since I'm using the VPP program; basically they say there is no where for them to cut cost.

My other alternative is to order a 2010 which there is a good chance won't be yellow. I've tried a couple other dealers and one didn't want to work with me at all. The other wants to order my car but can't until next week when the 2010 info is released. Just frustrating. Why didn't Nissan make more yellow Z's?

well, yellow is probably the least popular colour...the polls here even show that.

Some people refuse to pay $500 extra for a color, and Nissan probably anticipated that, so made fewer yellow cars.

I paid $37,500 (before tax and tag transfer) for a yellow touring/sport/6MT with Nav and Lojack. Your price seems a bit high.

Well I'm paying 35098 for mine before tax and fees. The difference in price between our cars sounds about right considering you have NAV and I don't. Unless I'm missing something.

if your from Nevada, then tell them you are not going to pay taxes, just deliver the car to you, they don't have to charge you taxes if its an out of state deal. (its your choice).

What happens is you receive your car in Nevada, pay 7.75% tax at the dmv at the time you register.
I purchasing a 09 touring sports w/ nav and mats for 37,500. however after Nevada taxes and whatnot its 40,500 dollars.

Hi- If you look at the sticker on new cars, they already charge a destination fee that should be built in to the starting MSRP from which, you negotiated downward. However, it sounds like your charge is an additional destination fee on top of the standard one since it has to be transferred from the dealer. I would try to tell them that there is already a destination fee and that $750 additional is excessive. I would try to split the fee with them. Given that they gave you a very good deal (700 below invoice), they may not have much more room to play with. IMO, $750 is a little high. In 2005 my dad had a car shipped from California to Ottawa, Canada (east coast) for only $1000.

Hope this helps. Either way even with the fee, you still got a good deal overall.

Actually that is a good deal, just a terrible tax rate, but you can't do anything about that. At least you don't pay state income taxes in Nevada. 4K sounds awfully high for taxes and fees though.

No, that was before taxes and tags. I could probably have done a little better, but I had a trade to negotiate as well. The good news was that I only had to pay taxes on 10K. In Maryland they deduct the trade amount from the selling price and only tax the difference.

When using the VPP program I believe the destination charge is already left out. How they arrive at the price is taking invoice of the car, subtract 2.75% or something like that from the price, so that in the end you have a price below invoice. Then after that only dealer fees, tax, and title apply. So currently in my price there is no destination charge, but I will double check that on monday. I'm I'm wrong and you are right then i might be able to bargin my way out of one of those charges.

The taxes come out to 2700 and some change. Then add the 750 for shipping. Thats 3450. The remaining is the title and BS dealer fees for the paperwork that every dealer charges.

I checked it out today, apparently Nevada is different than California in that Nevada dealerships don't take care of the registration. So as much as I hate it, it seems this is going to be the best deal I can get. Just not used to having to pay registration outside of the initial car purchase as in Ca the dealer adds it into the purchase. Thought they were trying to pull a fast one on me but it's just a different state with different laws than I'm used to. So I guess come monday I'll give my deposit and wait for my car to arrive.

One last question. Lets say that for some reason the car is delivered and has some small flaw like a decent size rock chip on the hood. Can I refuse the car and still get my deposit back? Only reason I ask is because a couple months ago I almost bought one Z but what held me from buying it was that there were several rock chips on the hood already with only 30miles on it. Just curious to know where I stand once the deposit is made. I mean I hate to be picky but I figure it's my 40k I'm spending.

Registration is $500? I think in the northeast it is $150 for 2 years on new cars with all the BS they tag on

Well you might not have "paid" for the destination fee because they gave you a good deal but its still built into the original sticker price of every car. For example:

Base car $30,000
Sport package $2,000 (I'm making up #'s)
Destination $600

Total MSRP: 32,600

Total Invoice 30,500
Your discount- (700)

Price for car after discount 29,800

In this scenario, you still paid the desitination fee, its just deeply discounted. You might have paid for $400 of the $600 or something like that effectively.
