Simple fact is if you are going to buy from a dealership always talk the price of the car and settle on it before talking trade. If they know there is a trade involved they can pad the numbers to ensure they make theirs on the vehicle you are trading in. so talk new car price then know how much your trade is worth via NADA and then talk overall total that way you know exactly how much you are getting on everything you are doing.

So for example the car is 30 and you settle on 32 OTD then you talk trade and get 7k but you owe 8k. it should be the 32k + 1K = 33k OTD. now that is the simplified way of doing it but there is nothing hidden in that equation unlike the paperwork they do.
