Question Why so many 2009 models at dealers?

Hi -

Recently started looking to purchase a 370Z coupe and have been very surprised to find mostly 2009 models and not the 2010 models at dealers in my general area.

Any opinions as to why? Thanks - Marie

I'd have expected the dealers to have cleared out the 2009's by the end of first quarter at the latest.

I guess it has to do with the 2009 not selling enough to get out of stock + 2010 models probably have a waiting period.

I remember that I had a 4 month waiting period if I wanted a new Z instead of the democar

There are nothing wrong with the 2009 models. Consider yourself lucky because you could probably buy one under invoice.

I think a lot of people look at the 2009's in the same way that a kid looks at a broken candy cane

I agree Marie...I live in the upstate of SC also and there's mostly 09's with no 10's to be found unless you are looking for a vert...nogood's right...you should be able to pickup an 09 around 3-4K under invoice.

LOL, so true.

Interesting facts you should know before buying a 2009:
My car is a 2009 fully loaded sport touring, 6MT with 11,500mi

Kelly Blue Book value for Private Party sale:
Excellent: $34,525
Good: $32,925
Fair: $30,425

For Trade-In value:
Excellent: $30,650
Good: $29,250
Fair: $26,750

The interesting figure is the Private Party Excellent/Good condition values. With 11,500mi, it's really maintained value.
Make sure your negotiation on the new 2009 is respective of these values.

i guess you can be like china and just put a 2010 sticker over the 2009 sticker and it will be considered officially a 2010 model..

With the sure savings, no waiting period and the fact that it's the exact same damn thing... What are you waiting for?

pssst... Go for the yellow if you can find one! The color was exclusive to 09's

I roll with KB on this one. Also, the 2009 models are special!

KBB always seems to overshoot, though.

Most 2009 models left are Touring and Base w/out Sport Pkg and most people want the Sport Pkg.

Plus some dealer want to sell them at MSRP like they are 2010 models.

The 2010 models come in late this year also.

Considerably....(bout $5K) based on the "Real" retail market, and Trade offers I've gotten..

The 2010 models come in late this year?!?! How much later do you think they're going to arrive? According to Nissan's press release, the 2011 Zs will be out in October. I have no idea what happened to the '10 coupes this year; all I was ever able to find were roadsters and 40th anniversary models. If you can find an '09 that you like, I say buy it. The 2011 cars are the same as the 2010s except they're offering a rear-view camera, and the 2010s were damn near identical to the 2009s. You'll get a hell of deal on the '09 and you'll have the car right now!
