Question what should my max price be?

I'm in the process of selling my M3 to buy a Z so Ive been doing some research to get my self prepared. What I'm looking for is a pearl white base+sport with a 6spd manual trans. I have multiple cars so I can wait as long as I need to before I get my Z so my plan is once i'm ready to buy talk to my dealer and tell them bottom line what car I want and for what price, I will show them my loan application has been approved for that amount from my bank and for them to call me when they have the car i'm looking for and I will close the deal that day. So my question is this and its an important one, what amount do I tell them is my max number? Thanks for the help everyone and I look forward to joining the Zcar family!

'09 - I wouldn't go any higher than $2000 below invoice
'10 - I wouldn't go any higher than $500 below invoice

With that being said, that is the max price and you have a lot of factors going for you (time and money). I think you should go for these deals:

'09 - $2500 - $3000 below invoice
'10 - $1500 below invoice

I was quoted 700 below invoice on a base z. Truecar has this as a great deal. I have called fontana nissan here in ca and they cant touch that. What makes you think he should ask for 1500 below invoice on a 2010 model.

I can only speak to purchasing an 09, I just wouldnt know about the 2010s. That being said if you look hard enough and dont mind traveling a bit (I drove 150 miles) 2000-3000 below invoice for an 09 is certainly doable.

I got my 2010 for $1880 below invoice with only 23 miles on the car. I don't know how I pulled that off, but if he has the time to really shop around then he will be able to find a really good deal.

how did you manage that, anything special?

so would everyone agree that asking 2,000 below invoice seems doable with my situation?

also what is the difference in invoice and the price they are offering, this will be the first new car that ive bought so im a little confused with the terminology. what would I be asking for on the Z I found a local dealer that is listed for 34k if i go 2k below invoice?

I walked in with a gun! idk they had already marked it down $2k and i told them i dont wanna pay the service/prep/delivery fee. which was another $500and because they were in BFE i said i need another $500 off to drive 160 miles to get the car. lol
