Default Ordering the exact car you want.

I was going to post a reply on the thread about the guy who took the red 370z when he really wanted a PG one. Couldn't he have just ordered the car he wanted in PG? What do you have to do in order to actually order the exact car with the exact options you want? Come this May, I want to know exactly what I'm up against when I go looking for the model and color I want.

Thanks!

This is usually what happens:
~Dealer lot
~Available future cars (dealership can see I think 2-3 months in advance)
~Local area (dealer will attempt to trade)
~Truck in
~Custom order

Sometimes people are in a hurry to ditch the current car or trade in car to get the new car and if the dealer offers a lot of $ for the trade in you might feel the need to do it right now weather they have the color car you want or not.

There are cars, such as the mustang, where it has so many options that you really do have to order one to specifically get what you want. But this car has so few options, it doesn't really seem necessary. The car you want will likely become available locally before you got your custom order.

I was looking at Challengers, Camaros, Mustangs and Zs. I was going to order exactlly what I wanted regardless of the make, however it was much more important with the domestics, particuarlly the Mustang based soley on the fact of the Amount of stuff they can come with and the exact combo I'd feel comfortable dropping 4K0K+ on, just as Frost said. The Z I wanted was exactly the Z I got with the exception of the color. I wanted PG, but settled for Blue. I got a killer trade in on my truck which was completely unreliable, and a below invoice price on the Z. The color wasn't what I wanted but it grew on me pretty quickly, and I'm glad I went with what I did. Its all about what you want to do, if you're willing to make exceptions you'll have the car faster than you otherwise, unless of course you're lucky.

That would the easiest way, but not all dealerships are like you.

I had my car located within a week and trucked in a week later. No money down, nothing signed. Only phone calls. The only thing it was lacking was the illuminated kick plates, which were very easy to get and install. This was a Nismo though, so the only real options are color, then mats and kicks.

I know a car manufacturer wants to give people what they want, but the buying process becomes so much easier with cars like the Z where you have a few packages and not a boatload of a million options to pick from like the Mustang. I looked at a Mustang and maybe I'm alone in this but I didn't even want to go through the hassle of trying to figure out what I wanted with all of that crap to chose from and then add the fact that there is a 99% chance the dealer won't have it on the lot anyway. Domestics are the worst offenders along with VW which might be the worst of them all.
