Going back on monday due to service department being closed.
|
I'm going back Tuesday for full evaluation and the verdict on what needs to be done to correct the paint on this brand new car.
|
Well, since i got bored I fired off an inquisitive email to Nissan about the proper course of action (both for my info as well as the dealer if I have issues there). I know I won't get a response before Monday, but at least the ball is rolling for me. I'll keep you guys updated on what happens with mine since it isn't too bad my hopes aren't high, but it should be under warranty so I might as well fix it.
|
Skeeterbop and Lakeshow: keep us informed. I want to see if I should go ahead and take my car to have my 2 paint issues looked out.
|
Wow, I'm glad I came across these thread. I have an 09, PW, and I have a couple spots on the car like you guys are describing. At first, I just thought i could clay bar off... didn't work, tried waxing it, still nothing. I looked really closely and noticed its under the clear coat. It looks like a darkish color stain about the size of a dime. I have 2 spots where I found these.

Going back again this afternoon, I talked to one of the service guys and he looked at it and agreed with me. But he said the service manager would have to look it over. I'm planning on washing it again before going in since it has been windy the last couple days and then rained last night.
|
Well, the dealership is going to do a repaint, but i believe only of the hatch since that is the only area i have an issue with. Taking it in next monday to drop off.
|
Hmm I have noticed some spots on my hood that I could not get off the last 2-3 times I washed the car. Not sure if it is the same issue or not, but I will try to take pics soon. Only thing is mine is an 09 PG and not GM. Those spots weren't there before so it may be something else.
Also, I will post pics of my PG Z when I get home from work  |
This is what mine looks like, it actually goes all the way across this part of the hatch.

I don't know, I think it depends on why they repaint it. I think that for something like this it shouldn't go on any history report since it is a defect from the factory. The minimal body work they did on my door when somebody backed into it; isn't on my carfax report I ran a couple days ago.

For something like this, I would think their priorities would look like this:
1. Mask the window very well 2. remove spoiler 3. Mask underneath the hatch and adjacent panels to keep overspray out/off. |
looks like stretch marks lol. Don't trip too much on color matching. Its not that hard, just remember you get what you pay for.

Nissan will cover the cost. How well of job they do who knows
|
He is talking about the repaint. Basically you want them to do a full repaint and not just spray over it.

yep, dealership here said they would take care of it at their level no cost to me. If i get it back and the car looks or the paint feels like crap (my main issue being overspray that causes the good paint on the other panels to look like crap) then I will definitely ask for them to fix it again, if they won't fix it right then I'll be contacting NNA to see what can be done. I'm not seeing this being an issue, but i won't know until they finish.
|
you know what it is? stretch marks, so stop feeding it so much :icon18:
anyways, i have a minor paint defect on mine as well, not very visible unless you are up close looking at it so i am not gonna bother to fix it. The respray might come out worse :shakes head: |
Here are some pics of my PG Z (as promised like 2 days ago :p)

Blades PG looks good. Saw one the other day at my dealership getting serviced and I was able to compare the difference between the Gun Metallic and the PG.

I think the GM is lighter than the PG and the PG has a bronze-ish hue and the GM has a blue-ish hue.
|
I just wish my car was a little darker gray. I really want it to be the 40th Quartz color :yum:

I have some spots on mine too, but that might be something else. Going to wash, clay, wax the car this weekend to see if I can get them off. If not then I don't know what to do. Could not get them off the last 2-3 times I washed the car. http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMAG0739.jpg |
^^If you touch it can you feel the spots or is it as smooth as paint on rest of car?

best way to tell is to get the car really clean. Then run your fingers over it, if it is just as smooth as everything else I would let the dealership check it out. It may be something they can buff out, or it maybe stains under the clear coat.

I think I have figured out the Gun Metallic paint issue at least this is what I was told by the head manager of the Service department. He said he has seen this before. He was explaining to me that when the PGF(paint guard film-white stickers on new car) is ripped off in the wrong temperature meaning excessive heat, the PGF sticks to some paint and and the paint re-adheres as normal paint but in a discolored manner and damage is under the clear coat. I was told something along those lines but it makes sense for my car at least. The car was here in NY in the scorching hot months of July and August and was at a couple dealers before I bought it.
So maybe the PGF was ripped off in the hot temps? Idk because it was at other dealers. Anyways, apparently he told me that this damage could be heated out of paint which they may attempt than rather paint the whole thing. |
That wouldn't explain it for me, my car arrived in Atlanta in the middle of the winter. At the time there was about 8" of snow on the ground there

I stopped by the local Nissan dealership regarding my paint issues. The service technician looked at my car and said the faint dark spot on my left fender was caused by the factory and the 2 water spots on the hood may possibly be buffed out. He recommended I go back to the Nissan dealership where I purchased the car. Unfortunately, it's 75 miles away in another state. For the money I will spend on gas, it may not be worth it.

one of my favorite colors :)
