Nissan canada calls this issue "fallout" if i was you...i would go to a bunch of shops and have them give you a quote and tell you what it is and take it the the rep!

LakeShow 11-08-2011 05:42 PM

I took it to a couple of body shops and they said it needs to be painted over as it is under the clearcoat and is a mess. The problem is it's all over the car. I'm very pissed off. Going to call corporate because this is a factory issue obviously. Cheap paint jobs on a 40k car.

Did you have a Nissan rep come down and look at it or did your dealer just handle it. By the way, does this go on carfax?

Was it something you noticed and told them right away or after a few days/weeks/months?

I have my car for about 4 months. Two possible paint defects: 1st Picture: one small area on the hood where it looks like water spots under the clear coat. Second picture: a faint discoloration (somewhat similar to the picture in post #90 by LakeShow) on a small area on my left front fender. Very faint and not too noticeable unless you are looking at it.

I tried everything and nothing could fix the above issues

Are my possible paint defects covered under warranty?

(I am currently at work and will upload pictures later in the day)

It sounds like you may have the problems that myself and a few others in this thread are suffering. It seems to be very common with this Gun Metallic color. Once you have the pic up we can analyze it. Basically if it doesn't buff or polish out its under the clear coat indicating another defective Gun Metallic Z.

I added a picture (click on it to see it clearer) of the "water spots" under the clear coat which I can't get out. Having diffuclty taking a good picture of the faint discoloration on the fender.

If you can't post the letter here, can you pm it? I see you are located in Canada. Wonder how much different the States will be.

Yes that looks like mine just slightly more faint but marks look very similar. It has that brown looking stain. Did you have someone attempt a buff or polish just to double check? If it doesn't come out that's the defective paint.

Let's hope Nissan in America is as nice as the Candian Nissan with consumer issues.

not yet. Both do appear to be under the clear coat. Will be close to the dealership next week so I'll see what they can do.

I'm going to try to get to the dealership Saturday. I'm doing a CHL class all day Friday if everything goes right.

How long have they had your car?

Skeeterbop 11-10-2011 12:56 AM

They haven't had it yet. I'm going to take it in and see what they say.

What is the issue with your paint?

It seems a lot of us have paint issues and I wonder if it's primarily the Gun Metallic paint which is affected.

From my research it seems to be that the under the clearcoat stains are only with the Gun Metallic. Other things I've heard for other colors is bubbling and water marks.

Skeeterbop 11-10-2011 08:39 AM

It's got stains under the clear coat between the spoiler and hatch glass.

Skeeterbop 11-10-2011 08:39 AM

I think there is some on the roof as well, but it is much harder to notice.

Are your stains similar to my pictures (post #98) or from Lakeshow (post #90)?

Skeeterbop 11-10-2011 11:35 AM

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to be on every panel. Going to wash my car this afternoon and make careful nite of all the stains on my car.

LakeShow 11-10-2011 11:49 AM

The stains are tricky. You must see them at the right angles to notice them. If its bright and sunny you may not see them. Look at every panel at different angles. That's how I saw mine, in the shade not sun. Sometimes you can't see them just looking straight at them, maybe a side angle. Look carefully

Exactly how I found mine. You can only see it at different angles and very close. You have to be looking at the right angle. It's not like a dent which you can see from far away.

If I can have the paint taken care of for free or for a small price i will have the work done, otherwise, I can live with it.

LakeShow 11-10-2011 07:38 PM

I just spoke to Corporate, their only solution is they offered to paint the car. Ugh what to do.

Skeeterbop 11-11-2011 12:44 AM

Yeah, the crap on my hatch isn't noticed unless it is in shade. I was showing it to a friend at lunch today and he couldn't see them until i blocked the sun from the affected area.
