Default Service Engine Soon

Well I just hit 26,958 miles on my 2009 Z and the service engine soon light pops on, I haven’t had any problems with the car, taken good care of it. I have noticed that my idle speed has increased by 200rpms even after warmup. Any ideas what this could be I’m not due for an oil change for 3,000 miles. I would appreciate any and all speculation, Thanks.

Why speculate, get a code reader and see what pops up.

This. Go to Autozone. They'll let you use their scanner for free.

There is more than one "service engine" indicator. One means something's wrong (you'll need an OBD scanner to get the code), another means you're at the configured interval for oils change/&c (no OBD code thrown, so scanner won't tell you anything).

The bump in idle speed may be due to dirty MAFs. Cleaning them is an easy DIY.

Yeah I was just poking around under the hood to see if anything looked out of place. The only two mods I have are a Infidia Gimini CBE and the K&N typhoon intake filter tubes. The filters still look real clean and I am about to turn over to 27K, so I am averaging between 6&7 thousands miles a year. I am off this Monday I may drop into the dealer and see if they can give me any assistance but this seems a little early for even an emissions break down.

Default Intermittent

Well I was coming home from the gym tonight after stopping off to pick up some fast food and the service engine soon light didn’t come back on. So anything worth speculating now that it may seem intermittent.

My guess is dirty MAFs but it could be a lot of things. Cleaning the MAFs is very easy, so I'd try that first.

Beg/borrow/buy and OBD/CAN scanner/logger (from $20 for a cheapo EBay unit to $100+ for a real fancy one; you can get what you need for $40-60 at most auto parts stores) and monitor MAFs, O2s, &c.

Sounds like it's an intake leak after the MAF sensors. Might need to do idle-air-volume-learn. There's a way to check your codes for free at home. Try this: Nissan Vehicles Engine OBDII Codes Read Without Nissan CONSULT or Scan Tool | Nissanhelp.com

In case you need to perform Idle Air Volume Learn: http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/f-q...rumsite/20547?

I've had it come on with an O2 sensor code before then go away.

The code will most likely still be stored. I'd still pull the code at autozone (or your own reader) just so there's no surprises...

I bet it is the P0300 code. It raises the idle each time it throws that code.

I had this happen to me about two week ago. It was P0300, Random engine misfire. I had the light reset and hasnt come back on since.
I think the Idle RPM on start up was little higher than normal, but its gone now.

Default same problem

I have 36,000 miles on my 09 Nismo and the service light came on with the random misfire code which causes it to go into a "limp mode" where you cant go over 3500rpm's... had it at a performence shop and the dealer and they both couldn't figure out why the code is on, had to pull it from the dealer cause they kept trying to jerk me around running the bill up for things i know what wasn't causing it. the guy at the performence shop thinks it may be something with the cams (ruled out the coils and spark plugs) but wanted a second opinion before tearing the engine apart cause of the low miles. If you can figure out why your engine light came on please keep me informed! been searching all over trying to figure this out, tired of wasting money for them to figure out whats not wrong with it!
