I think in black it won't look so out of place. Function over form in this case

One seat in black (if the other seat is black) will not greatly look out of place.
I see it all the time in track cars, driver wants a more solid seat but not worth the cost to double down, all in your purpose and goals.

if the car is street driven, ill almost always say get a pair of seats. if its track driven, then screw the passenger, just buy one

Passenger and driver need similar restraints per most clubs/NASA/SCCA (does not apply for autocross)

Interesting, my HPDEs I've gone to don't require a roll cage but do require similar restraints

Note that if you are going to track your car at all you will:

need similar restraint systems for both driver and instructor (IE, belt layouts, not necessarily the exact same seat)
need a harness IF you end up using a fixed back seat

I vote save up and get two matching seats. Cobra makes good ones too, I wouldn't count them out.

Just wondering why people don't like Cobra seats? They are well made and they are what I use on the track. FIA approved, fit me well, fit in the car fine (Suzuka).

Anyone know a place in Socal where I can sit in some seats to see how they feel? I know about Werkz in Burbank, but they only have some Sparcos. A place with Recaros and Brides would be great. It's a big investment without being able to test it out for fit.
