But yea, that's a big misconception, the whole thing about airbags being deployed means the car is totaled. That is so not true. It doesn't take much damage for them to go off. An insurance company isn't going to total a car and eat 50k dollars when there was only 10k in damages, just because airbags are deployed.
Yup the problem with that is you have to be certified to install airbag components when its an insurance claim they charge **** tons of money tondo so

Furthermore, you have to replace the sensors themselves that light them off...and that isn't just plug and play...

Umm, actually they are, the 2 side airbag satellite senors and crash zone sensor all plug into a harness. Unclip it from the harness and replace, its that simple.

I highly doubt that getting the whole system back and running again is as simple as slapping some new sensors on, and throwing new bags in.

Does the FSM specifically call for what to do after a collision event? Or does or simply cover how to replace items?

It just mentions if the drivers front and passenger front airbags deploy, that the front panels need to be replaced. Other than that it shows how to replace all components. I've taken out everything minus the crash senors.

And it talks about how to reset the system if you get an airbag light illuminated on the dash

*And if anyone is wondering about the price of an airbag, Courtesy Nissan has them listed for $545 a piece. There are a total of 4 airbags in our Z's.
