Never buy a first year model. Vettes are all over the place so they are not unique. The standard C6 is good, can a Z keep up with it? Not a Z06 C6. Those are fairly rare though. Vette's before that the Z will likely keep up. So I don't think performance is a good reason. With some mods the Z will be in contention with a base C7 and looks elegant doing it. The C7 is all edges and stuff.

Even so, I do like the looks of the C7.
A fully bolt on and tuned Z can maybe...... I repeat... maybe can keep up with a stock C5 vette (0-60/ 1/4). A C5 Z06? No chance. And a C6, base or Z06 would destroy a Z. We already know the answer about a C7.

Not trying to be a GM fan boy... but lets be realistic people. For the money, you get a ton of performance with these cars. And I'm not talking about just straight line speed. Since the C5 came out, these things can handle, brake, you name it. Are they everywhere? Well it is an American made car, so no sh!t.

As far as claiming only old men drive them.... well if that is the case then the majority of 370z drivers I see around my area look like a Jersey Shore characters. And don't even get me started about 350z drivers. Kinda pointless to base your opinion on a car by its drivers. I understand this is a Z forum, but believe it or not there are better performance cars out there. And not that much more expensive compared to the new Nismo with tech +7At package.

The vette is a compelling vehicle. It's one of my "next ride" options, but... Elecsteer is a turn off... With the Ridiculous amount of recalls and engine failures. I would hold out on buying a vette until 2016 or 17. This car needs time to get right.
The Z, is inferior on paper but the Z provides an exhilarating driving experience. A right now car? Z wins. In 2016? Maybe the vette?

Aren't most new cars now going to electric steering? I'm not a fan of it either.

Yeah, At least Infiniti kept the hydraulic unit on the Q50 sport. Other Q50 non-sport models are elecsteer. That gives me hope that Nissan sees the importance of hydraulic steering in SPORT vehicles.

I would keep my sport/touring Z over a base 1LT. Throw in the Z51 and I'm on the fence. Anything above that and a happy new Vette owner

I wouldn't argue Z06 of any year or any C7. However, there is evidence that a base C6 is only a second faster than the Z around both the Hockenheim Short track and the Top Gear track, and the base C5 was two seconds slower than a Z around Hockenheim Short. Don't know who the driver was though. So I would say the Z would outperform the base C5 easily and could, with mods, at least keep up with a base C6. Just sayin'. I found this info on fastestlaps.com.

I agree there are higher performance cars out there. For me it's bang for buck. If you want C7 performance then you pay the 55K for the base model and move on. If it were me, I would buy at least the 2LT with Z51 package. That would be fun. But, 65K and ... Corvette. A base C6 would be slightly better than a Z, but not much. And you have C6 fit and finish. Earlier model Corvettes will require up tune performance models to do significantly better than a Z. The question for the OP is whether or not he will find satisfaction with increased performance of a Corvette over a Z. If he is going after a C7 then possibly yes. If not, buyer beware. A used Corvette may have unknown pedigree.

I owned a c6 and it was an absolute thrill to floor it but I would rather daily the Z. I love the c7 in white with black wheels my fav vette has to be the ZR1 though.

Ergonomics have turned me away from the vette. I stopped and looked at a slightly used 13, sat in it, looked around, and wasnt impressed with the set up. Old boring typical GM ergos. I got out of the vette and told the salesman I had a better car.
Dont get me wrong, I do love the vettes from the outside view tho.

Best bang for your buck is the Z. With some good mods you can turn a Z into a monster that will beat the vette in a lot of comparisons tests.

They are both nice rides and either will make you a happy camper!

Vetts are a dime a dozen. And everyone keeps talking about the c7. It's still the same with that, as soon as they hit the dealers they were sold. In my area, there's already about 15 give or take within a 10 mile radius. Why have something everyone has? My opinion.

Guys with gray hair can't be cool?

Back on topic. The C7 appears to be a great sports car for the price, but there are quite a few issues with it. My suggestion is research the Corvette forums as well as the online magazines before jumping in with that much money to buy a C7.

I've done my due dilligence and I wouldn't buy the Vette at this time. But I believe Chevrolet will work out most of the issues in due time, so as I mentioned in another post, the 2016 model year would be the first one I'd get.

I say, enjoy your Z for now and look to swap it out for the C7 in two years.

I can't believe people are saying the z is the best bang for your buck.. It's probably 3rd behind a mustang gt 5.0 and used c6 vette. The. Mods you would have to spend on a z to be faster than those cars is Not worth it.

The only thing holding me back actually from buying a z actually is the performance just isn't there for the money.

And what about the Camaro? The new Z28 smoked the corvette by 3 seconds in the car and driver lightning lap.

Honestly, you buy a car like either Z, vette,Mustang, Camaro, because it trips your trigger. I don't care if any of these new tech are faster than my Z. I love my Z and I didn't buy it because it was the fastest. I bought the Z because it is fast and looks cool doing it and it is what I could afford. And none of those others has synchro rev matching. Well, for 60k,you can get it in a new vette now, five years later.
