Default Want a 370z but concerned before buying

Hey guys I'm new , test drove a few 370z for a possible purchase . Love the looks . Didn't like how harsh the engine felt and the clutch was kind of horrible from 1st to second gear. Are these things I can fix if I get the car. I also am concerned with the value I'm getting for the price. Just seems a bit overpriced. Is that why I don't see more on the road? Why dont these cars sell? The dealer has a whole bunch of them. It's either this car or a q50 so I want best value for money.

Thanks for any opinions

Value for the money can be subjective in many cases. You know what you want, you need to find the car that offers you that for the price you're willing to pay.

With that said, in the sports car universe, the Z is typically regarded as good bang for your buck. Its a lot of performance, and most here would agree--aesthetics, for a sports car in the 30k-ish universe.

Why don't you see more on the road? No idea. I actually prefer the exclusivity of the Z club. When you see another, its a nice surprise (and you're usually welcomed with a nice wave from the other driver). Its a good, small community.

1st to 2nd gear is notoriously...interesting in the Z. With that said, you'll get used to it. I have no issues with 1st to 2nd roughness anymore as I did when I first bought it. I love the raw feel of the engine.

I'd add that the 370z and Q50 are entirely different beasts. That is really apples to oranges. I have trouble seeing how the decision of which car to buy is between the two of those. They each offer very different things and are suited for a very specific type of driver. Find out which appeals to what YOU want more, and you'll find your answer.

M experience with my 2011 compared to my 2014 is that the 1-2 shift is smoother in the later versio. That said, I certainly never found it to be a deal-breaker in the 2011. Love the car. I don't know about the value, don't really care. The car's a blast to drive. My 2011 cost me about $5000 more than this 2014 did, I was still OK with the deal considering what I was getting for that $42,000. At $37,000 for the current version, so much the better.

I agree with all of the above statements.

And I like the feel, harshness if you will, of the motor. That's just me, though. I also like the engine noise that reverberates to the inside of the car.

Used is always an option if you're strapped for cash as well. Some great choices here on the forum classifieds.

Hope that helps! And

Also, clutch is always replaceable with a better aftermarket choice.

Being a Nissan repairs and parts are a fraction of the cost of what you would pay with say a comparable German "sports car" I believe some people stray away from the car being that it is more "stripped down" meaning more rawness in the drive and not all the luxury items standard like heated seats and navigation (although they are offered in some models) you will get used to the shifting it is a lot different than most other cars. Overall they are reliable and a great bang for the buck!

The z and q50 are two entirely different cars obviously. My question is, which vehicle best suits your needs?

I thought you had to choose a car to register sorry. I like the fang look a lot but led is nice also.

Thanks for the info guys , I'm only considering q50 because I had a g35 which I loved and I heard the g37 and 370 are similar.

JDubya summed it up pretty well. Bang for the buck, it's hard to beat. I've owned several that we're more expensive, and all in all, this car stacks up very well. It's certainly not the most refined in some areas, but the engine is stout, I think the tranny is fine for the application, and I think it handles as well as both my Vettes did.

Do your homework, and make a decision. In the end, it's just a car after all.

What year/model/miles did you look at? What's your budget? Can you afford a Cayman S or a 911? The Z is by far the best car for the money, yes the transmission is kind of crappy in my opinion, the engine sounds fine to me but I do have an exhaust which really changes the feel of the car, you can make a few changes and make this car a heck of a lot better in many ways. I would not buy new for sure, a lot of these cars sell at the very end of the year highly discounted or on the following year, even still brand new with 0 miles, again highly discounted being a year old new car.

lol the engine seemed so uncivilized to me when I took the Z for a road test and almost said no way am I going to deal with this horrible noise every day...now i look forward to the sound and is music to my ears, and the gears I have no issues at all, love the Z and I'm glad I waited to get the one I wanted fully loaded and a leftover from the previous year made it impossible not to buy as the 14's where identical and a few thousand more..

Shifting is driver error... speaking from experience here so don't take offense. You learn the clutch. My shifts are substantially smoother than when I first started throughout every shift. I find the shifting a bit qwerky from n-1, 1-2, 2-3 and lesser degree 3-4 but you get used to it.

As for the engine's roughness... it will grow on you! The g35, g37 and q50 are all the same line of cars IMO. Luxury sports sedan/coupes. Comparable to IMHO, is350, 335, c350 (or c400 now I guess), s4, mkZ, etc. The 370z is umm... yea it's a niche. I guess the genesis, Camaro, mustang... then again they are different classes.

If you are getting the car, get a lightly used or year-older model with the sports package. Save yourself the depreciation hit.

Love my Z but if I could obtain a Q50... yeah all day. Love that car. Drool every time I see it.

One day I'll have both. (After my Z is paid off - not long)

the first question is, you want a 2 seater or a 4 seater ?, are you looking for performance ? what is your budget ?, I'm a college student so i got the Z cause i don't need 4 people in a car, just me and my friend or gf. The Z turns heads like no other cause its such a nice looking exotic 2 seater. UNLESS A LAMBO PULLS UP, I SLOWLY BACK OFF LOL
